VFX could use some polish?

I've not played ED as yet, but from the many, many YouTube videos I've watched that game is looking very nice indeed.

Except...

The VFX seem a little bit underwhelming - especially the explosion animations.

I saw a Lakon Type 9 just sort of 'crumple' after about 5 mins of intense heart-thumping dog-fighting in one video, and others such as the Anaconda seem to be pretty underwhelming too.

I know this might seem like a minor point, but I think that VFX - and especially explosion animations - provide important psychological 'reward' to players. It's the space equivalent of Mortal Komat's "finishing moves"!

Check this out from 02:00 mins in for a game that really, really does it right... and over a decade old too!

I think FD should aim to be easily topping the VFX of a game released in 2002, but I just don't see it as yet.

Can any of the players who have access to the Alpha/Beta reassure me the in-game VFX are better that you experience on YouTube?

I read somewhere that the explosion for the Cobra was recently changed. The other ships might soon be receiving similar changes.

Watched the video, looks cool. Not really sure explosions in space would be as spectacular in reality though.

Damage and stuff is yet to be added, the game is still in polish stage. Unfinished painting and all that.

There are a number of things visually that could use some work. The planets could look better, AA needs ramping up... etc.

That said, it looks pretty damn good for relatively early on.

There was an early dev diary which showed a WIP Anaconda damage model where the side was torn open and you could see the storage holds, as well as electricity arcing between steel and stuff coming out of pipes and so on.

Hopefully the final release will reflect some of that. Although I have to say I find it to be quite a pretty game.
