Elite: Dangerous 1.0 will be released on 16th December. The game’s ever unfolding story starts on the 16 December launch with players participating in a vicious power struggle between the potential heirs to the recently-deceased Emperor, as the Federation and Alliance – the Empire’s rival galactic superpowers – attempt to manipulate the succession battle for their own advantage. Like every story in Elite: Dangerous’ shared galaxy, players will influence the outcome.

Is anyone participating in the vicious power struggle yet and in what form? I don't follow forums too often, just flying around, exploring, bounty hunting and doing missions for the navy & for my Altair faction. But if there is a vicious power power struggle i can participate in - point a finger please, i'll be there within an hour. :)

When you're docked in the stations have a look at the GalNet feed on the right hand column, you'll see the current story unfolding there.

Yep today's news is some Independent system defaulting on loans to Senator Patreus.

Expect imperial shenanigans to ensue.

Check the GalNet news in stations, there's a wee war going on in Sorbago to free/crush the slaves, but as far as I'm aware there isn't too much of a power struggle - yet. If you read the news it sounds like there are several senators with different interests at heart, and a young, naive girl set to inherit the empire (off the top of my head anyway, i don't know much elite lore and i've not read them today). This sounds like it will lead to missions in the empire to sway the influence of it's power, and I imagine similar will happen in the federation, eventually leading to full blown war.

At least, that's what i see starting to form, it may just be a matter of time :)

Yep many stories start that way.. you got a few seemingly unrelated key figures, a very fine common thread, and lots of diverging back stories then BAM here it is before you know it you go from supporting slaves on an airless rock to bombing some drug farms to a shootout between fleets of different sides.

There is a war ongoing between Kappa Fornacis and the Federation.
There is one warzones and 3 Capital ships zones where you can fight in the Kappa Fornacis system.
You can combine bulletin board missions with fights in the warzones to earn credits :)

I've had quite a bit of fun fighting for the Federation. And I went from "novice" to "competent" in the fighter ranking.
In that system you can also do some trade missions and there is a rare commodity "Onion Head".

I want to see this spread and affect all the star systems that in any way related to Federation and /or Empire. And I want to see Alliance involved as well. I want to see mini conflicts take place and players in many systems take sides.
