[Video] A Pirate's Life

Just had a go at some piracy in one of the Extraction Sites. Well, I tried to have a go anyway. Been having some networking issues (I think server 46?), I don't know for sure.

Anyways, earned myself a nice bounty when firing off a missile at an NPC. He blew up before the second missile got to him, and in a bought of hilarity - the second missile found a different target ;)

Which, of course, resulted in a player wanting to have some PvP. Long story short - I chased him away with 14% hull - keeping my distance to either make him pee himself or have a go. He did the smart thing and legged it :D

Also, I can't seem to do any damage to subsystems with missiles. And I don't know if it's just me, but seems the lighting is a bit screwy in the asteroid belts?

Cool video, shame that little git Sidewinder didn't get whacked. I was really hoping for those last two missile volleys to led to a fiery splat! :D :cool: Good choice in music there as well, matched perfectly to what was going on.

Yeah, there was a whole lot of "misses" for some reason even though the hit markers showed. I attribute that to the networking - maybe the range too, as I was staying back a bit.

If anything, I succeeded at chasing him away like a mother lion with her cubs :p

I think the missile misses were due to max flight time and them self detonating. You both were on max burn, you trying to catch him, him running purely. The problem was when you got just in side of maximum range you threw your pips to weapons to take a few shots at him, with that you slowed and lost it to maximum hit range. You did this a few times, caught up to max range then fell back to out of range.

What you should have done was held off on those volleys and boosted in to half way inside your gun range. You had a minute or so to do this, at that point he would have either gone hyper or would have been dead because those missiles you fired would have had time to chase and impact up his pipes.

Next time, check your range and hold your gun firing there pilot, don't waste your V or ordinance, make sure every shot and missile counts. :p Nice flying though, very smooth with your lining up. :D

Yes, missile range is best thought of in flight time... not distance between you and target, unless the target is stationary when the missile is launched and remains so.

So, a missile fired against a ship moving ahead of you, but at constant range, will take more time to get to the target, whereas firing at ship chasing you (and at constant range) will take less time.

It's all relative to the flight time from the point of launch. The distance from the point of launch lengthens during the missile flight for a target you are chasing and shortens for a target chasing you, and thus flight time varies accordingly (or maxes out before impact).

Very nice video! Liked the music and the overall flow. Missiles are really beautiful weapon system as well... too bad using them means making no profit what-so-ever in most cases =/

If the goal is pirating they could find their use for player deterrence I suppose, assuming your puls lasers are enought o shoot open some nice juicy hatches. Still, I would probably have gone for a different loadout... which is a shame really since missiles look good and are fun to use.

/Merf - Is it odd a pirating video is somehow... soothing?
