Video Alien Ruins with the upcoming Tobii 4C Eyetracker

Hey guys.

I have been asked to review the upcoming tobii eyetracker 4C with head tracking. But I wanted to give you guys a sneak peak of what’s to come.

Please note that this is not the full final version of the tobii eye 4C and head tracking has not been enabled. Also, I am still tweaking the software to get the best settings that work for me.

So far I have been extremely impressed, but I will save my comments for the upcoming review.

Hey VJ, I'm in the beta program, and my tracker is on the way. I currently have the eyeX, and am totally looking forward to this testing this product. Since I live in asia, its delayed abit due to shipping, any comments you can give regarding the headlook feature?

I am still awaiting the next software patch for headtracking, so I cant comment on this yet, but stay tuned. :)

I've found the original EyeX (I got the steelseries one) to be lackluster at best. I can't leave it on (have to toggle it for specific use) and it requires too much discipline with keeping your eyes still and relying on peripheral to pick up other details. I really don't think that I'll be buying into this next one. Now if I could return the old one for a discount on the new one I might consider it, but I'm not dishing out that amount again for something that just isn't focused enough. If the head tracking is as good as my TrackIR I might consider otherwise.

The EyeX worked well on release but then Tobii changed something in the software and now the tracking feels unnatural, laggy, and jumpy.

Genuine question here, I've kind of ignore Tobii eyetracker in the past, but I'm now slightly interested. Why would I choose this over Trackir or even EDtracker, what does it bring to the table that the others don't?

There is a significant difference between head-tracking and eye-tracking. I've used both the EDTracker and EyeX and can safely conclude that I personally prefer the eyex over the EDTracker for one reason: It doesn't require anything else besides your eyes.

As already stated above, it requires discipline and training yourself to get used to it. Its a lot more natural than the EDTracker and Tobii has updated the Infinity Screen to introduce limited FOV's, so you can limit how far you can look left / right / up / down.

Here's a video of me with the EyeX.

Okay, I see, but if it requires discipline then it really isn't that more natural is it? Great technology, and can see why it has a fanbase, but that price point leaves a lot to be desired. IDK, maybe it's a try it thing, to truly see it's value.

Thanks for posting this Vinnie! Looks like I now know what to buy the wife for Christmas. ;)

This made me spit up my coffee!

VJ, what other head trackers have you used to compare this one to? I'm patiently waiting for my EDTracker Pro to show up in the mail. Well, maybe not so patiently.

Nice video.
