I'd love this kind of very rare & random cataclysmic event to be rolled out in Elite...resulting in death with preferably, a clear save on top, too! Wouldn't that be amazing & truly a nod to the spirit & undertaking of high-risk space travel?

Just as soon as FDev makes a new 'ironman' server mode, in which every death is permanent and will clear your save, of course. You might get your wish, and don't be afraid to play on those servers.
