Newcomer / Intro Video creation for the clueless CMDR

Just thinking out loud and I don't have a clue how...

If I wanted to create a video in ED, what do I need? A video capture card? Software? Does ED have a recording suite somewhere? Where should I go for answers, if not here?

I may well be in the wrong forum so apologies in advance.

I use OBS Studio - it is freeware and easy to learn and set-up. It is much more useful than the Windows 10 Game capture and infinitely better than having that awful GeForce Experience installed. (You don't need video capture card.)

PC forum is good place for hardware and software queries plus in the Off-Topic forum there is a "Hardware and Technical" label thingie you can use if you post a thread in there.

What is your platform? In Windows 10 there is a recorder in the Windows game bar.

+1 for OBS.

However, OBS only captures the footage. You also need to edit it. I don't think Win10 comes with Movie Maker as standard, although I know you can still download it from somewhere because I've done it, it's just that it was so long ago I can't remember where I got it. The benefit of movie maker is that it's free - good (ie professional) quality editors cost a lot of money.

I've recorded loads of vids with nVidia Experience. When they messed up a driver temporarily, I used the Win10 game bar that's not as good. You have to keep switching off and on the mic to make it work, and it only records the game window, while as nVidia records whatever you do on the PC. I then use the free Hit film Express to edit and combine the clips.

Not necessarily. Take a look at ShotCut.
