DLC can be crack cocaine for developers with dollar signs in their eyes, diminishing the quality of the game and causing anger in the community.

Case in point, Train Simulator....

That it's possible to add 6 grand worth of DLC to the cart is comical. I was preoccupied by Train Sim for awhile, but like many players I felt something wasn't right with their approach. The lack of discounts or value incentives for owners of the game, cast a shadow over the product, reflected in reviews and player loyalty.

The key is balance and respect for customers who have shelled out for the base game. Don't let the game turn into a cheap casino with rows of poker machines. So many mobile games are ruined by this relentless obsession with virtual coins.

Depends on the game too. Some games act as platforms for continued growth and possibilities more than simply "another choo choo train for sale".

Also depends on the CEO's attitude. Invest the money made back into creative ventures, or buy a mansion and a couple of sports cars and throw a few coins out the window of your car at the next project.

I do think it depends on value. When i think of system where you have to 'buy' currency like cards, or 'Sim Points' or coins and trade them for content at an over inflated price.. that is too much. But content that is reasonably priced for the development work that goes into it and any licences needed, I think is fine as it pays the developers wages and keeps people who want more happy. I don't want to pay £16 worth of Sim points or whatever they were called for a dining table and chairs, but I don't mind paying £2 for several bits of scenery, and a re skinned ride as there is a lot more fun to be had for for less cost here.
