Hardware & Technical Video Editing Software Recommendations

Hello, as some of you may know, I've started my own ridiculous series about my adventures in ED. (See signature)
I'm still learning to edit... So you can see the utter noobness in my videos. Lol

I'm currently using Lightworks Free Edition to edit my videos. It's seems powerful, but is missing some effects and things I would like.
It IS possible to do them, using some lengthy work arounds, but I'd rather not start using multiple programs to achieve it.
Mainly having transparent text, video a video playing where the text should be, plus more transitions.
Plus, I can only export to 720p which doesn't look great when I play it back on my 55" TV... Lol
(Although, to be honest, a 10 minute 720p video takes over 2 hours to upload at home, so I'm not sure I should be using 1080p videos... Lol)

Anyhoo, I pick up new software pretty quick once I work out the system, so I don't mind switching to something else.

But, do you have an recommendations for free video editing software?
Or even just plugins for Lightworks to allow me to do everything I need.
My rig is plenty capable enough, except is low on RAM (8Gb), but it's good enough for me.

I've had some experience with the trial versions of Adobe Premiere Pro, but it's far too expensive for personal use. So I'm looking for a good free one.

Recommendations?

Resolve is very powerful for a free product, but it's really easy to run into restrictions of the free version, it's a downright pain to do seemingly easy things like have somewhat consistent overlay text (apparently it's not possible to make your own presets, like what the crap?), and it loves to just crash when dealing with "non-professional" video files like those from screen capture software; in addition, I've repeatedly had it crash in rendering when doing anything else on the machine. If it works it's great, but it's not easy to get there.

As obviously old and weird as it may be, Magix Movie Studio (previously Sony) is probably one of the better pieces of software for the amateur who just occasionally needs to put something together. It mostly tries to look and feel like a "normal" NLE, does the common tasks like titles and useful transitions acceptably well, and there's a lot of tutorials and general advice on the net simply because back in the day it was what everybody warezed. These days the licenses are cheap enough at 40-70€, and there's a trial.
