For simple stuff like gameplay videos almost any video editing package will do the trick. Personally I use Shadowplay/share to record the footage and then use Sony Movie Studio to edit the video together + add music! Truth be told though most of the time I cannot be bothered with any of that so I just setup the scene in game, record and run the Shadowplay output files through something like handbrake and then upload to YouTube.
If you want to try a video editing package out it might be worth checking out Blender as I believe that comes with a non-linear video editing feature built in and it's free! If you want to add music to any of the videos and you're going to be uploading the files to YouTube make sure to check out the YouTube audio library as you can use their music in videos without having to worry about copyright issues!

I like Blender but it will take a few youtube tutorials to settle in with it comfortably but once you do, it's a piece of cake!
No doubt that it is a good piece of software, however there are 3 ways to buy it:
1. A monthly subscription of $19.99/mo for 12 months (total $239.88) and at the end of the year you would have to renew or no longer use it.
2. By the month at $29.99 payable each month and at the end of each month you can not use it any more unless you pay another $29.99
3. A yearly (one time payment) of $239.88 and at the end of the year you would have to renew or no longer use it.
The software I noted above have a one time *Sale* purchase price of $49.99, $59.99, and $179.99 respectively and you own it outright (after this sale the price goes up).

That's the downside to Adobe, the subscription based payment. Can definitely be a money saver if you intend to use multiple programs from them though.
i use power director 14. Cyberlink also has massive 50 and 70% off sales. Microsoft Movie maker supports only limited formats not even xavc s and its way slower performance wise than power director 14. dont get sony vegas unless you are rich, they are a rip off and overcharge far too much. sony vesgas needs to learn from cyberlink power director who charges WAY more fairer for the customer.
For me Light works and Hit film 4 express are always my go to free editors. I use Adobe Premiere CC professionally so its nice to have.
When I edit videos its mainly shooting between 6-5 external shots 1-3 tracking shots, and 1 day Pov and 1 Night POV. afterwards its all about cutting the clips to 1.match the music (if any) 2. to tell the coasters story, 3. crop out unwanted shots.
(at some point they will go to YouTube, but haven't felt like putting em up there yet)
If Adobe is out of the question while looking for NLEs (Non-Linear Editors) some other options people tend to use is.
Hit Films is the best out of the other options for people starting out but want a semi professional editor..

- Lightworks - That is FREE.
- Vagas Movie Studio - that goes for around $75.00USD
- Pinnacle Studio 20 - that goes for around $59.00-$99.00
- MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2014 - That goes for around - $69.00 - $129.00
- Hit Films 4 Express
Hit Films is the best out of the other options for people starting out but want a semi professional editor..

Just an FYI, Microsoft stopped supporting Essentials (Which contains Movie Maker) a few weeks ago and pulled down the links for it. If you still want it, you can still get the installer from download.cnet.com though and it will install.
