[Video] Is Quince a good thing or a bad thing?

After all the raving/moaning about Quince over the past few weeks, I thought I'd go out there to see what all the fuss is about and give my thoughts on whether this is an exploit or not.

There's a few things you missed.
If you take a closer look at that data point as you moved away, only one column lowered. There are still additional data points at that same location that can also be scanned. (The raised columns).
These yield things like Specialized Legacy Firmware, Cracked Industrial Firmware, and other desirable data.

There were also two separate data point structures, so with 5 missions there could have been as many as 10 data points to scan there.
This is far more valuable than the credits from these missions.

Exploit? No, I don't think it is.
As intended? Probably not, else the structures would not be stacked on each other.
Bugged? Maybe closer to the truth. More closely, it's just the coding for the mission that is flawed, but that's not our fault - we didn't write it.

I don't care if it's an exploit or not. Y'all just keep showing up at that beacon so I can keep blasting ye to blubber bits.

God I love whaling.

Oh I'm back in SD in my Python, I don't play the game to fly back and forth to the same planet all day. But you go ahead, anyone who's silly enough to do that run in open..

Certainly more to it than I thought, thanks. I do think it is an exploit though, hard to argue that people aren't "exploiting" an unintentional mission occurrence or bug. They aren't breaking the game on purpose, of course, but exploiting something already there. It's still up to Frontier to make it go away. I just hope they do it correctly. Quince could still be a good place for scans if you had to travel around the planet visiting several bases instead of just the one.

You would be surprised how many people are willing to do that all day... I see the same familiar faces as well. They just don't learn. The best part about it is you don't have to do any interdiction work. Just sit and wait for them to fall in the trap and then let the pack hounds fly.

Going after peeps doing passenger missions is not what the vid is about.

You said in the video this isn't working as designed. The game developers designed it this way... It appears to be working exactly as designed... :p

Also, why isn't this mission type treated like someone delivering digital media? If I write a piece of software and 8 people want it, I don't write it 8 different time, I write it once and make copies.

If these data scan points were looked upon from a similar standpoint, it would make sense to scan a point once, and deliver copies of the data to multiple mission givers for multiple payouts. Now, let's assume (through the magic of lore) that the mission giver is a proxy through which work is funneled. This means the mission giver isn't the sole benefactor of the missions he/she provides. If that is the case, then it is perfectly reasonable to assume that one mission giver may have multiple patrons that wish to obtain scan data from the same scan point. Game design restored!

This mechanic makes sense (if we use our imaginations for 'mershun), the payouts really don't.

It may not be working 'as intended' but it's not so egregious that FD immediately patched it when it was first discovered. They may patch it soon (tm) but we can see how they feel about it by their priority in fixing it.

While some may be up in arms about Quince, Frontier isn't.

You're both right though, Frontier has let it go on for a while so you have to wonder if they really think it's a big issue or not. I guess the issue here is that even with these massive money payouts, which clearly shouldn't be so easy to achieve, the whole thing doesn't really affect anyone else's game. That could be because there really isn't a galaxy-wide economy, so huge money payouts don't affect prices for anyone. Outside of ganking and piracy in this game, there really is no negative impact on other players. This isn't a good thing though, it just adds to that "mile-wide, inch deep" feeling that the game can have and of course, Frontier see this and react appropriately by not prioritising it as a game-breaking issue.

I suspect it's an unintended consequence of the mission generation system interacting with the set of assets available in this system. Fixing the mission generation system may not be trivial as that has wider ramifications.

The simple 'fix' would be for FD to slap a permit requirement on the system (with no way to currently get it), and UA bomb the station to force those in the system to depart. Then it would just be out of bounds until the underlyng issue was addressed...

As a representative of The Foundation I'd like to award you with our highest honour, a personal title - Master Salt Miner! :D

Keep up the good work!

More newbies are flying A cutters than sidewinders...thats wrong...everything else...so far so good...

^^^Stupid comment. It takes a long long time to rank up to Duke even with Quince missions giving 10 -20 every time. It doesn't tho, so avg is about 6-9.
MOST importantly... The mission payouts are determined by exploration rank. NO newbie is making mega millions at quince in short order.
1)Have to become allied first
2)Have to have high exploration rank
3Have grind it for 2-3weeks at 5-6 hours per day to get the imperial rank for a cutter
4)Quince CANNOT be on lockdown status, which it regularly has been.
5)Cmdr will have to earn a billion credits to A rate a cutter. Without high exploration rank, thats going to take a good while at Quince.

Hell, even at pathfinder rank, im only avg'ing 350k-600k per scan mission with a few here and there for 1.3 mill. And.... Normally only see 6 missions on a good board, 2 on a crap board and 0 quite often. Mode switching doesnt always generate a fresh board. More often then not, the board is populated by massacre missions and again NO newb is going to profit from that.

I have a Cutter, i know how long it took to grind it out rank wise even with mission stack ability prior to 2.3
At Quince, you cant just take a couple scan missions and board hop hoping to add more. It doesn't work. If you have ANY scan missions, NO scan missions will appear on a relog board hop. You have to clear those scan missions first. Plus.... You gotta board hop constantly just to get a decent board with more then 4-5 missions. Avg payout for all missions in one go for me has been about 5-7 million credits. Not even remotely close to the advertised 70 mill per hour.

Also....no newb is going to get an anaconda in one or two days for the same reasons minus the rank wall.

I challenge you to gwt a fresh account, go thete and see how long it takes to borh get the cash and rank to A rate a cutter. It wont happen quickly

Are these missions still being offered at Quince? I was there for a while and made good money, but they stopped giving me any missions at all. Anyone been there recently?
