To be released in 2024.

Nah, Carriers were released in the latest patch. There are hundreds of them in the shipyard at Raxxla, waiting to be collected.

Just means it will land with the 2020 DLC update.

When they first talked about new era and Carrier/Ice delay, my guess was that they kept carriers and ice planets for the small updates knowing how far this new era thing would be, to make 2019 less empty than i's going to be.

I thought the ED items were still on the 'roadmap'. Its not quite the same as 'being in development'.. [haha]

The impression I have is that the Ice worlds code are being folded into whatever is coming in 2020, while we won't be getting the fleet carriers in the next couple of updates.

They've said that the next two updates will focus on the New Player Experience, so if you think April for the first, June/July for the next, we might be looking at September/October before we hear anything more about them.

It sounded like the carriers were dropped from the Beyond release relatively late so having them come back felt more a matter of when than if. Same with ice planets to an extent.
Really tough to know what this all means without more information from FD.

I'd speculate that we could see carriers as part of some general gameplay improvements this year but it does feel a bit featurey so maybe not?..
Ice planets may be even more subject to what their future plans are - this may act as something of a bellwether. If we get ice planet updates this year that may indicate we can expect less in terms of new planets for the big update, if we don't it might hint that improved planet work is part of that update and so they've decided to hold off (why waste effort you'll chuck away or release something before it is finalised).

Have to wait as patiently as possible for more information..

I personally think we'll see Fleet Carriers sometime this year and the doomsday lot that were worried about no updates until 2020 will be proven wrong. Fleet Carriers seems more quality of life and not really a big content update to me and could fit in the mission scenario content tree. After all they did say missions and scenarios would be part of the smaller updates between now and the end of Elite Dangerous... sorry I mean 2020 :-D

How are fleet carriers a quality of life update? That's a brand new feature.

It's not completely impossible we see them before 2020 but in my opinion they don't seem to be part of some QoL updates. Then again, they also mentioned new features and perks, whatever that means.

Certainly Ice planets could be a perk, it could just be released as a visual update, higher-fidelity terrain etc minus any additional gameplay linked to it. That would make sense to me. New Era sounds big, like a core engine re-write to enable more gameplay options to hang onto landing on atmospheric planets and or spacelegs as Frontier have often stated in the past, even if the atmospheric planets are just gas giants or lifeless worlds.

Not sure about Fleet carriers, but Ice planets could still be an interim sweetener.
