Video recording software

I use bandicam and record in 720p.

A 34 minute session from last night was 9 gig. Bandicam does not effect framerates much at all.

Well worth the purchase in my opinion.

Used Bandicam, Fraps and few others for a while. Now i am using Nvidia Shadowplay and it's clearly superior, even though it's lacking many features yet, being a beta. Even being beta it uses the least amount resources of all recording software i used. 30 or 60 FPS recording, supports microphone. Can broadcast to twitch or just save on your drive. Very easy to use. And the best part - it's free. You got to have Nvidia card to use it though.

If you don't have nvidia card, Bandicam is a great option.

i have switched over to the geforce experience thingy, including shadowplay beta wich i think is awesome in its functionality, specially as it allows twitch streaming, too.

only for nvidia cards gtx 650 and upwards

This is really good, thanks for the tip. You can run it constantly and then just hit a key to save the last n minutes. The mp4 H.264 videos can be edited in Avidemux (with no loss of quality). Medium quality is fine, btw, 22mbps of H.264 is enough for anyone!

Another vote here for Bandicam.

I switched over from FRAPS for 2 reasons - smaller files, and you can include your own watermark while you're recording, no need to wait till you're editing the video to do it.

About 6 months ago, Bandicam came with a new feature. It is now able to use external codecs, so I switched from the default internal codecs to using vfwx264 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw) codec. On average, it's approximately 5 mins recording per 1GB. So a 30 min recording would be about 6GBs.
