(VIDEO) So I was told that you can shoot down Torpedoes in flight. This video proves otherwise. Bug or not?

Why is the icon larger than most stations? Why are torpedoes labeled as seeker missiles and not what they actually are? Why do we get an ordinary missile alert message when these torpedoes are clearly much much more than that? The devastating power they wield deserves its own audio cue and audio impact effects alongside proper labelling in contacts. Why am I still bothering to repeat these things? But as far as shooting then down why do some people insist that it is possible to do? Am I being bamboozled? Lied to? Played like a Fiddle?

My god that icon is massive!

Submit a big report immediately! Lol

I've never tried actually shooting missiles down with guns, but you can use seekers against torpedoes quite effectively.

Maybe you should also pop this in the Suggestions box.

Smaller icon, proper labels and audio alert, ability to shoot. Fairly simple request!

OP, I don't think that was a bug - or, at least, if there is a bug, I don't think your vid proves it.

The actual proportion of shots fired by a gimballed multi that hits a small profile target can be a tiny %, to the point that if a shieldless Viper III or similar manages to maintain the right angle and movement, then at above point blank range almost all of the gimballed multi bullets will actually miss, due to gimballed sway plus deviations in flight path from the predictive aiming.

Whilst the huge torp hologram is silly, the actual size of a torp is of course tiny - after all, Sidey can fit them.

In short, therefore, I think that a very small number of your multi bullets hit that torp, if any, and as the torp has high health, what happened happened.

My suggestion would be to repeat the test using a stack of gimballed beam lasers, if you have them. You might also get more ToT for testing purposes if you have the torp chase someone else, if you see what I mean.

The torps health remains at 100%, it looks like it took a few hits though?

Please highlight the frame where it takes a hit. I don't see a single shot on target.

I'm at work and will get into trouble if I pore over the video frame by frame :) It looked to me like the torp took a few hits when it was at close range to the corvette, just before it explodes.

Funnily enough I shot down someone's torps with Packhounds the other day.. much more effective than point defense!

But yeah, that does look bugged, I certainly didn't notice the massive icon, but they were labelled as missiles, I only noticed they were torps from the slow speed and the distinctive sound they make.

One seeker will often knock out a whole volley of torpedoes...seekers/packhounds are by far the best anti-missile and anti-SLF counters.

Hm, isn't that the job of "Screening Shell" Frag Cannon effect?

IMHO it'd be near impossible to score a kinetic hit on a tiny Missile/Torpedo with conventional Weapons.

PS.
I find it odd that the Torpedo displays as a "Seeker Missile". I kinda expected it to read "Torpedo" (?)

On paper, yes.

I practice screening shell is a largely ineffective countermeasure against missiles/torpedoes, but is heavily used as a raw damage multiplying effect as it cuts reload times in half and the reload time on a frag is longer than the time to empty the magazine.

Yes there is no way at least one didn't hit it. Especially near the end there as it got closer. It should have taken at least 1% damage but weapons just phased right through despite hitting dead center. Gimballed moves around a bit but not enough to justify "missing" these shots like some people say. They are very accurate. I mean we can all see them meeting each other in flight. You can see that they should have hit each other. The proof is in the pudding and I brought the pudding.

...pack hounds....it just never occurred to me that could work on torpedoes...thank you. Now I know what to do in this situation since all other methods are borked. InB4 that is somehow bugged as well.

I used to bag womp rats in my T-16 back home...

...wait, wrong forum

You can destroy Skimmer missiles with an SRV, I don't see why you couldn't kill torps?
