[video] Why do I play Elite Dangerous?

And... this thread has been totally ignored for several hours already..
probably because you're make so many vids/streams recently, people don't have time to watch the forums anymore.. or play the game... See, it's YOUR fault Elite is dying! :D
(and T.J.'s)

It's true though. It happens everywhere.
"oh, you criticize about this or that so very often, you obviously must hate it".
Nah.. that's not how it works.
It's pure luuuuuve, baby :p

Anyway, keep them coming Yamiks!
(and you too, Frontierersdevspeople [yesnod])

I want a squeaky toy, and a giant bell from the Frontier Store!

A "deranged" mod for the Keelback would be great, too. :)

Yes.

Most of the games I've played for years on end were also because of the people I played with.

Heck, I bet well over thirty of my friends would jump at a chance to play some Rainbow Six 2 Terrorist Hunt right now, and that game is ancient.

But I'll add...

The reason I keep posting (and repping/supporting those who post) ideas and suggestions is because I want to see Elite become even better!

And even more fun to play with friends.

I remember Planetside 2 back when SOE was paying the bills. It was an awesome game and indeed a great community. We had some great commanders on voice comm and some crazy epic battles. Funny thing is, the month after it went live, I went on holidays for the new year. By the time I came back, I lost all interest in the game :\ Haven't returned to it since, but I definitely remember the good moments I had in it.

When it comes to Elite Dangerous though, both it and Stellaris are scratching my space itch right now. There hasn't really been anything on the market that I've found interesting. The last best space game I recall playing was Freelancer and that was a dogs age ago. I do believe Star Citizen has the potential to become the next best space game though, but not even god knows what the hell Chris Roberts & co. are doing with those projects. Till that day comes, if ever, I shall contribute to FDev's income statement :)

Planetside 2 and Elite Dangerous... That's exactly my choice of online games :D
I'm pretty sure I invested more time to those two games together than into all other games in my Steam list accumulated [yesnod]
Both of the games are, in my opinion, the best of their kind as both the games give you so much possibilities to set your own stile of gaming. Nevertheless, none of it is what I would consider a "perfect" game, but how should it ever be possible for a game played by thousands of people to be perfect for everyone (not even for at least everyone playing it) :S That's why I think criticism is very important if done right, pretty much as you already say in the video. I just don't undertand those "This game is sh*t/dying/lame, gnahgnahgnah *whining-without-valid-reason*" kind of people^^

I used to play Planetside 2, but the fact all the maps and bases were designed to be theme parks rather than for any actual tactical considerations or defensibility was second only in annoyance to groups of people switching sides mid-battle to teamkill everyone they could, then switching back. The game would have been infinitely better if the bases were designed with functionality rather than balance in mind, and if players were only allowed one character slot per server.

Planetside 2 was also too grindy, even compared to Elite. Forcing such grind had similar effects (incentivising exploitative and implausible behavior) on both games, but the context of Planetside 2 made it's negative effects that much more blatant.

Both of the games are, in my opinion, the best of their kind

They are also the only ones of their kind.

I also loved Planetside 2, but the only reason I stopped playing was because my Liberator bomber crew stopped playing. (Crew was people I know IRL, which is why I never just joined a random outfit to replace them)

As for Elite. I simply like the core flight mechanics.
The laundry list of other mechanics might be bad, but I try to focus on things in game that I like — unlike the internet, which seems to focus on things they hate. :D
