[video] Why is Python & Krait mk2 OP!?

I love the Krait Mk2 and the Phantom, but.... I just got my first Corvette and I am loving how much room is inside this beast. I can stack 3 missions at a time, and smash anything that tries to get in my way. And if I take cargo from one place to another, the profits are huge, so it is paying for itself. And it doesn't have a big belly like the anaconda, so belly scraping the letter box is no longer a thing!

That or the Cutter ..... which has speed if it wants to run.

The Python is a good ship as it can hold that magic number of 180t of cargo whilst still being sufficiently strong enough to take out an elite NPC Anaconda (actually, it can do this whilst carrying 250t). Thing is, she is a fat old target, and there are more fun ships to fly.

For me, the Krait mk2 has two problems, the Python and the FDL. The Python is the better cargo hauler (try knocking down NPCs that attack you with +200t in the Krait's cargo bay) and I find the FDL is more fun to fly in combat. However, if you're after only one of these three ships, the Krait is the best balance.

So, no. I don't think they're overpowered. They have their roles like every other ship and their price at the top end of the medium ship category reflects this.

I reckon you'll need more than half and hour, them Beluga's are fast and agile...
To be honest, it's more out of scientific curiosity that I'd want to do it more that any real belief that the Cutter would be better (multiple battles may be required for thorough testing, so you're probably right about needing much more than half an hour).

I think it could be a entertaining start to crossplay implementation though. Beluga v Cutter weaponless deathmatch in orbit around Carcosa A1. Maybe we could sell tickets.

Ah yes, the multiroles. There's a reason why those are the most popular ships on Inara. Python is fighting a battle for 2nd most used ship with the Anaconda, and Krait II has been steadily rising in popularity and is at the #7 spot now. And yep, that size 7 plant is borderline OP. I run both ships on low emission G5 power plants for stealthy business, and still have no trouble powering everything needed.

Are there ships that can do any one job better than those two ? Plenty. Are there ships that can do every job as well as those two ? Only the few others right there at the top of the popularity list.

Okay, I admit it, I really don't like flying my Python, rarely does it put a smile on my face YET it is the most flown ship in my fleet - by a long margin. It is boring to fly, but then for me it is my work truck and I don't expect my work vehicle to be umm exciting. I expect it to be damn good at it's job and it is. When I want fun I fly one of my 'fun' ships, when I want to earn some credits, I fly my Python, simple as that. Same with the Krait, bought one, realised it can't carry as much as the Python, found (for me) it's perfect niche - it is my miner. 128T of cargo, plus 8T in the refinery, that is my limit of endurance when mining anyway so for me, it is ideal.

For combat, neither of these come close, if I want to go blow up other ships, my FdL, Vulture or now my favourite, the Mamba come out to play. Why use a 75% ship for a task when I have a 100% ship available?

Oh and before someone pipes in and says anything about using a Cutter/Corvette/Anaconda/T10/T9 or god forbid a Beluga, nope and repeated for emphasis NOPE. Actually have a T-9. Hate flying it, hate the thought of some NPC in a Sidewinder can interdict me and have more speed and agility than I have in that cow. Just not the ship for me. Same for all the big ships, with the only exception (for me at least) is the Clipper. To me the Clipper is a medium ship that tried to play with the big boys and lost, it use it for fast/dangerous cargo missions or mat collecting - mainly the latter.

Also, I once did a bit of a check. I don't know if it is a peculiarity of my home system or not, but if I went Large Ship only for missions I would immediately cut out over half my available missions. Yep for some reasons a lot of the systems around my home system only have outposts which means a Large ship is basically useless to me.
