Viewtracker – head tracking

I may be a bit late to the party with this - but I've just downloaded the free demo (7 day limit) of viewtracker from steam.

This software works natively with ED and uses a webcam to track your face orientation and alter the in-game camera accordingly. I guess it's a “poor mans VR” - and I fit firmly into that category!

My web-cam is ancient and my PC rig is certainly not cutting edge anymore and I can't say the results are massively stable (seems very dependent on lighting) , but when it does work, - it is fantastic. It means you can look around when prospecting or in combat.

Anyone else have experience with this?

For those with a decent webcam it may well be worth a shot, of course, I discovered it just - AFTER ordering some IR headtracking hardware! Should have just bought a new webcam!

No experience with that. Been using Track IR for years now and it works great.

If you are referring to TrackIR then you will not be disappointed. Like @sinisalo, I have been using TrackIR for many years - initially in flight simulators but it is great for Elite (and many, many other things).

Same here. I bought it originally for use with sims like Falcon 4 BMS and a number of prop sims, but it works splendidly with Elite. Every now and then I forget to start Track IR when I fly ED, and see immediately how important Track IR is, and how unnatural it is to fly without head tracking.
