Greetings commanders, I thought i'd share my recent adventures
Field Marshal Rommel in 1941 said “The modern battlefield is the most brutal Darwinian environment created in the history of man” and ED has proved that even in the virtual world this continues to be true, the first couple of days post release you could not move without some newbie interdicting you, shooting at you and then dying, frequently costing you money in Machine gun ammo and new paint.
Anyway I was trotting around the Ross 210 system in my ikkle Adder thinking about how much better the newbies were doing and chuckling, thinking how they will be pouncing on all of the people who get ED for xmas, Thursday will be carnage around the newbie systems
.
After landing I loaded up with copper for a bulletin board mission and off I goes and part way I was jumped by a Viper piloted by a human pirate no less
. I did the polite thing and said “good evening” (we are terribly English after all
) and pleasantries over he invited me to make a donation which I declined – so the fight was on, 1 second later laser fire was bouncing off the ship the computer was yelling that I was under attack (Great thanks for the update) and that the shields were off line, the cockpit was tastefully illumined by sparks flying from the console we traded fire for a few seconds and then the viper was gone, showing off that trademark speed and agility, hmm not the most promising start to be true but after some dog fighting and trading fire I did take some solace from the fact that although he had shields they were almost gone and I was behind him….
WRONG he was in and out of my crosshairs like a dog after a rabbit and suddenly I realised I was acting out the role of the rabbit. I finally got a burst of fire in and thanks to my machine gun once his shields did go down his hull started coming apart, he broke off after his hull dropped to 85% my shield recharged and I took some stock. I was at 75% hull and the cockpit looked like a student bar on a Friday night, but my shields were up his were still down and he was at 80+ hull strength I did a sneaky flight assist off flip/roll and brought the guns to bare again chewing through his hull and hopefully providing him with the same pyro-technic light show I had enjoyed moments before. He came at me again chewed up my shield started eating my Adder, “this is going well” I thought and I would have run except that against a Viper this would have been folly. I fired again and my guns spoke their own fury and his hull started to feel some of my pain, his hull integrity started dropping and I could see his ship starting to limp, a few bits fell off and he began to trail smoke, just as I began to breathe again I was treated to another pyrotechnic show of sparks curtsey of his persistent laser fire, we continued to trade fire although I could hardly move and I was frankly looking for a comfy spot to die, shields gone, weapons overheating, scanner gone and my cup had fallen out of my cup holder (adder joke) then I turned and he was gone, I waited a moment to allow my shields to recharge and for me to gather the last of my wits.
I really enjoyed the fight but I wonder why the Viper broke away. After a few seconds I jumped out to SC and as the remains of my jump engine took hold there was a flash. Laser fire?? Was it the viper coming back??
I had 9% hull and he had 24, his shields were down but I had only 1 ring and I was basically flying around in a wreck at this point. My systems were shot, my scanner had all the abilities of the Titanic’s crows-nest lookout crew and my ship sounded like it was powered by a reconditioned Lada engine. I would love to know what happened at that point, flippantly I sent a message to the Viper “Chicken” but looking back I suspect not.
My belief is that either he saw me prepping for SC and did the same to get there first to be ready to snare me. What happens if he enters first can he “lay in wait”? Or I popped his canopy and he was heading for a station whilst holding his breath.
Either was it was fun, so thank you to who-ever you were
