Viper loadout

After a good few day's trading I parked up the Anaconda for the weekend and fully kitted out a Cobra. Been having an absolute blast in Anarchy systems with other commanders.

Am usually just a trader so haven't fine tuned my loadout's. This is what I use for my Cobra - http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=302,4yH4yH7sh7sh01Q0Wg,326Q6Q6Q4s4s4s6k,4_w9ok7RA03w7dg2UI

The plan is to head back to base and kit out a Viper, What would you use for general PVP in a Viper? I was thinking of an all Multi Cannon setup.

I used to use an all MC Setup but found it to be too inefficient against shields, so used small pulses in the C1 slots.

I used to use this for warzones: http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=30M,7tw7sW5QG5QG01Q0Wg,2-3I4s3m3m4s5K22,mpT7Q47e8 (I like my Vipers light - most of the time only used one SCB)

Obviously, I don't need a K-Warrant scanner or FSD interdictor for warzones, though...

Edit: and the fit obviously only works if the system I plan to use it in sells the 2D FSD.

4 x fixed multi is very functional ... not very sexy though!

You need fixed beams. Gimballed mc are okay

Is it just me or does the Viper have serious power supply issues? I've got an A3 and the ship shut down when I deployed 4 multi cannons.

Yes difficult. Remember that you can config so the frame shift drive and interceptor, and cargo hatch, can power down when you deploy.

Thanks, yeah I had my power priorities set up. Deploying weapons would still shut everything down. I ditched the shield cells.

Been driving a Viper with 4 fixed multi-cannons all day today. It's awesome! Put the class 2's where they belong! Really makes you focus on improving your combat driving. Good cheap fun.

It needs trade-offs. I'm still experimenting with the Viper and unfortunately don't have the opportunity to do it often (I only do warzone combat in the Viper and only fight for the Empire - some personal rules to add some flavour and unfortunately, there haven't been many pro-Empire combat zones recently).

Anyway - the fit I linked works with an A2 powerplant, provided you use do some manual power management.

For PvP you're going to run into shield cells quite often, so I usually run with c2 fixed beams and gimballed c1 multis for that reason. The fit I came up with has the room for 2 cells, only one active at a time though. It's peanuts switching them over though, and it means the hotkey works properly :p.

Edit - I had to remove the shield cell to get the ship running http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=30M,7tw7tw7sW7sW01Q0Wg,324s4s4s3I4s4s3c,7Pc4xompT9ou

In fairness, I've not climbed in since 1.1 as I've been hauling for £££. This sounds like a nasty alteration.
I did disable power to the cargo bay hatch etc ... and re prioritise power (all the standard stuff) but 4 multis plus shield cell were never an issue in the past.

My usual loadout of conflict zones

Detailed Loadout

2 x C2 Fixed Beam
2 x C1 G Cannon
2 x C2 SCB
2 x Chaff

Note FSD is just lowly class 2. Just buy class 3 FSD for traveling between systems and switch to class 2 for traveling within system back and forth between conflicts zone and the station

Taking out shields is paramount to PvP. 4 pulse works. If you don't take down their shields in around 6 seconds, they'll quickly be back to max. You might consider swapping some of the small pulses to beams. And never give up shield cells. proper power management can more than manage that earlier loadout. I'd suggest this as a template:http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=30M,5Rg5Rg5QG5QG01Q01Q,324s4s4s3m4s5K3c,7Pc7fE7dg9p2

Thanks for the tips everyone, once again I've parked up a Viper because I'm not happy with it, will try some of these other loadouts tonight.

Am really trying to love this ship but it's not happening, compared to the Cobra it's just not doing it for me, power supply is not good at all. Anyone here use this ship in the rift? It feels like you are sitting in a trash can :/ The Cobra feels like you are in the Millennium Falcon.

Money is not an issue, this is the Cobra I built last night - http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=302,4yH4yH7sh7sh01Q0Wg,326Q6Q6Q4s4s4s6k,4_w9ok7RA03w7dg2UI

Looking for a Viper that will pack the same amount of punch if not more..

To be honest I love the Viper, and I love E:D for what they've done with it. For me this is exactly what a great game is all about, you cannot have everything in one go but need to find a balance - and there are thousands of ways of finding that balance. I love juggling the systems, boosting out of the station no-fire zone and tweaking the priorities to get it all to work. Or, more often, not. It's A Good Thing that we cannot max out our ships and have it all work, there is no (mature) fun to be had from this.

I love my Viper and the fact I have to put up with rubbish sensors and downgraded systems to use twin beamers. It means more.

I've swapped several times between size two beams, size one multicannons, and vice versa.

At this point, I prefer sinking the medium hardpoints into the cannons. The hull seems to take a lot more time than most shields, even in this configuration.

Is it correct that better sensors will improve the weapon tracking of your gimballed weapons?

Can anybody confirm this?

BTW: With one Shield Cell Bank equipped, my Viper runs with Class 2 gimballed Multicannons and Class 1 gimballed Burst Lasers.

I just have to prioritize my power a bit.

Yes, better sensors equal better tracking.
