there was I watching smallville when a familiar shape suddenly pops up on the screen:

I've got a feeling the smallville production team is/was a fan of the original game as that ship is the spitting image of the mk1 viper from the early days of elite.

FYI: season 4 episode 22 right at the end of the episode

Nah...I don't want to spoil it for you, but it probably has a lot more with the fact that the top of that craft is shaped like this thing:
