Newcomer / Intro viper mk4 so slow?

So I went from an eagle to a viper mk4, and wow, this thing is built like a tank, but I am having a really difficult time taking down most ships unless really big , the maneuverability is so bad compared to the eagle.

What is a better upgrade from the eagle if I am mostly doing bounty hunting right now but would like to be able to take down not just small ships but all types?

But something that wont cost in the millions?

If you want something really good, you're gonna pay for it. The Eagle is nimble but has armor made of paper. The Viper is a tank, but tanks are slow. If you want nimble and tough, you'll want a Vulture or a FAS. Neither of which are cheap, but there's good reason for that.

Try a cobra MKIII. It's fast, agile, and has enough slots to equip decent firepower. Once you practice and develop a few good dogfight techniques, it can outfight anything and cost less than 10 million to fully outfit. Rebuy sits around half a million.

The eagle is one (if not the) most manouverable ships in the game, it's a real shock to the system when you change ships! You could try an Imperial Eagle which is heavier than the standard eagle but again you trade off speed and agility. The Vulture is a great ship but a bit more expensive, if you whack on A rated thrusters it dances pretty well. Only issue is it's pretty expensive to fully kit out.

Yes, like those above me, I'd like to point out that compared to Eagle, EVERYTHING from now on will feel sluggish. :)

Personally I would recommend trying the Diamondback Scout. She's not AS agile, but is definitely VERY agile. Speed is great, if you keep her light, shields are not worth mentioning (But you are used to that from Eagle, anyway) but armour is nice. And she has the same weapon loadout like the Vipers and Cobra Mk.III, but with truly awesome placement.

I wouldn't write the Viper off that fast. My personal feeling is this being the best ship in its category. Great shielding, nice hard points (the placement is a bit unfortunate but you learn to deal with it), lots of internal slots... Regarding the low agility, I learned to boost it by using the thrusters to support pitch and yaw. So when I go head on with my target and it starts to drift up, I hit reverse thrusters, pitch up and fire the up thruster. Test it, you will notice the difference with and without the thruster. Using this technique I can hold almost any NPC in sight.
This all with flight assist on, for now I still dare FA off only during docking.

Zee knows what he's talking about. :)
We were wreaking some havoc, yesterday, and he was able to keep up with both Asp S and an FdL quite easily.
50m/s can be important in PvP, but otherwise there's not much of a difference in dogfight.

Nope, I cannot let this stand. The VULTURE definitely won't feel sluggish. But OP is still a long way from obtaining it. Hence why I recommended the Viper MK III. Fixed weapons are what the Viper is best at. My PS3 controller is too lacking in the precision department, so I always use gimbals. But if you've got a stick, definitely get used to fixed weapons. :)

I agree, Vulture is great, but even so. Try to buy an Eagle, just for chuckles and direct comparison and you'll see. :)
We tend to get used to ships we fly. Hell, I got used to fighting in a Cutter, so maybe you'd still be surprised how much more responsive the Eagle is compared to even a Vulture.

You got the wrong Viper for the job. Buy an MK III instead, it is nimble and fast and has the same hardpoints.

Yeah I was thinking about exchanging it, and see and feel the difference.

Hmm I will give it a shot and try it and keep practicing, I guess I got spoiled by the Eagle agility

Yeah I hear a lot about the Vulture but I am so far from that.

Thanks everyone for suggestions.

by the way do you know any videos where I can watch or can you make a video? would be a lot easier to see I think for newcomers like mysql

Low budget? Viper MKIII or Diamondback Scout.

Mid budget? Imperial Courier. 9mill to fully A-rate, cheap enough to be expendable, faster than the Vulture, smaller than the Vulture, almost identical shields to the Vulture, no power issues, higher jump range, higher DPS against everything but the biggest ships...

The only downside to the Courier is the Master rank in the Imperial Navy. If you don't want to work towards that then yeah, I suppose you should get the Vulture.

I have a Viper MKIII and love it. Yes, it's a bit slow, but I was getting tired of my Sidewinder getting blown up. To answer your question, I'm not sure. This is the first ship I've bought. :)

ok i sold my vipker mk4, and went to viper mk3, love it, much more agile for me.

I took it out and was able to take some npcs at a high res site , and was able to get some decent kills right off the bat.

I will stick with this ship for a while, and keep upgrading

thanks everyone!

I liked my viper 3 when I had it.....
I stumbled into a bad place and was blown up, then re-shipped the same bad system's star dock, got interdicted trying to get out of dodge and killed again the second time with 0 insurance. :(

went to sidewinder horizons, couldn't make the buggy work, now back in a loaner ship with no buggy working on a viper 3 again......

all that to say the viper 3 handles dang nice, just stay out of bad systems with real players :)
