Newcomer / Intro Viper or buff my Eagle ?

I don't know what to do.
I have 140k which I know is a pittance in this game but believe me, ED has been a STEEP learning curve for me. So to be in this position is a thing of delight for a slow to learn like me!

Trading (in an Eagle, yeah I know) and doing the odd small job has got me enough to afford a Viper but that's where my dilemma begins, read on...


Having just started getting to grips with the game I now realise my short term plan. Being allied with any particular allegiance, party or order does not bother me too much but now I want to start cashing in some bounty coupons.

My Eagle is pretty much standard with the exception of a cheap cannon.
So my question is spend a good whack of my (very) hard earned creds and beef up my Eagle with decent lasers, cannons etc, or trade it in and get a Viper ? Would the default Viper match an Eagle with say an array of medium fittings ?

"A good whack" of your credits won't get you very far, I'm afraid
There are 3(?) class 3 slots on the Eagle. That's *ka-chink* 1,2andthensomemillion for those upgrades alone if you want the best of them.
Imho, you should put that in a Viper right away. Mind you, a stock Viper isn't exactly fun but this ship becomes awesome pretty soon.

get 3 guns on the eagle (make sure you have enough power!), multicannons can be great, easy on the heat and power and don't need a ton of pips to weapons. go out and get used to bounty hunting in a ship that will be a lot cheaper to replace if it gets blown up.

by the time you've got the hang of bounty hunting you will have more than enough cash to get that viper with some good upgrades.

keep the eagle, that way if you start to get low on cash you can park the viper and use the eagle to get some more without risking another loss on your more expensive ship.
