I've thought of asking this before but finally did it after tonights minor update. I have Virgin Media as my broadband provider and have their Vivid 200 package which gives me 215Mbps download and 20Mbps upload speeds more or less all the time. I have Win 10 64bit updated to the latest version. Online I use Windows Firewall and the paid for version of Kaspersky Internet Security. I connect to Elite Dangerous Horizons via the 5100 port recommended by FD using port forwarding. Tonight while downloading the update I got a minimum of 17MB/s and a maximum of 32MB/s with a mean average of approx 23MB/s. It took approx 15mins to download and install. This is more or less par for the course the last few updates of EDH but I remember about 4-5yrs ago when I started I was getting almost a 100MB/s download speed updating EDH, although I think this was possibly on my old Win 7 64bit PC.
I have the Virgin Media superhub v3.0 set to modem mode and then through a cat 7 wired connection to a Linksys router I also use a VPN at times though never when playing EDH and although my broadband download speed is cut to around 60Mbps with the VPN I regularly achieve 10Mbps download speeds while using it. I have noticed a few times that Kaspersky and my VPN don't always play well together even though it is added along with EDH to the okay programs list and am wondering whether Kaspersky may be interfering with my port forwarding address when using EDH.
I wondered how other players using Virgin Media had their permissions set whether using port forwarding 5100 or not and also noticed that UPnP is switched off in the EDH Network settings with no option to switch on while it is switched on in my router?.
