I have both and prefer the t50 mongoose.
There is nothing wrong per say with the delta. it's a very nice grip.
And it's main features is it's ambidextrous design, thumb stick and twist.
This supposedly makes it a 'spacestick'.
But what is really that task.
It's naturally controlling a complex machine.
So why would a flightsim stick be bad ?
Flightsims like DCS make Elite look like a child's arcade game in regard to complexity.
For instance I just spent last week learning how to drop a maverick from the Harrier.
Truth is each grip is perfectly good at playing elite with, or dive bombing Russian tanks in DCS.
In fact an analog thumb stick is great for slew, that's your camera/radar aiming used for target identification and lock. Some aircraft even have a second left hand stick for this purpose.
Heck the thumb stick is even more useful for that than thruster control in elite.
No seriously.
But again I personally prefer the t50 mongoose grip.
I found myself having to shift my grip position a lot between wether I was using the hats, the thumb stick or scroll wheel and it felt awkwardly cramped.
That might differ of course, I got them Norwegian hands.
On the mongoose I can actually grip it normally, and my middle finger is long enough to push the thumb rest button..
I also just find the button layout better, no pinky button on the delta was a big miss for me, it's main use was for things I needed while also having to do things with my thumb, replacing it for a button on top is no help.
For elite that's my fa-off hold button.
On the delta it was practically a choice between fa-off or secondary fire...
I find myself having more options with the mongoose concerning buttons and available fingers.
The pinky button, the index activated 2-way, foldable trigger (quite handy) is four buttons that is present on delta as well but all are activated by your main thumb in addition to all the other buttons under your thumb.
Which probably would be busy with the thumb stick anyways.
So long story short unless you absolutely desperately must have twist on the grip I would recommend the t50 grip.
But the margins are small, the delta is a very fine grip as well, and if didn't have both to compare with I would have lauded the delta as really great but missing a pinky button. If I was center mounting i would probably use that since it is ambidextrous.
To make matters somewhat worse an option is the top end VKB grip and gimbal.
The grip follows the same shape as the t50, but feature more hats with push and the round pov is a fully analog thumb stick.
The blurb for the MCG PRO grip is 6 analog axes 24 buttons.
That is in addition to the usual pitch and roll.
Although that isn't available until January at least.
I did sign up for a pre-order though....
I might just pop the delta back on and use it as a secondary hosas type setup.
