Hardware & Technical Virpil VPC WarBRD DELTA - Official thread

You are a godsend...!

The pins weren't properly connected thus X and Y worked because thats in the base and the rest wasnt recognized as the connector popped out while screwing the grip tight.

Thanks!

Also a warning from me to every new user:
Be ultra careful, that the connector plug is sitting correctly in the base socket, before screwing the grip to the base.
I did not during one of my assemblies, had a bed connection and a bend pin afterwards. Luckily, I was able to bend the pin back into place, again very carefully.

(asked this elsewhere, but this is probably the better thread to ask in)

Hi all. Can someone with the VPC Constellation DELTA Grip on the WarBRD base please tell me the total height of the combo & the grip by itself?

I'm curious just how big the grip is, plus how tall it'd sit if you just sat it on a desk (or some other arrangement, besides the full-on Desk Mount)

As for comfort, does reaching the HAT controls require adjusting your own grip much, or is it pretty much at effortless thumbs reach?
(i consider myself to have big hands, but I could not get used to the size of the x56. not wanting to offend anyone here, but i found the x56 ergonomics awful. made for giants?)

Found this on redditvwhile looking for something completely different.

A few general specs:

Height of Constellation Delta on BRD base: 12.5" or roughly 32cm

Width of desk base mount: 8.5" or 23cm

I just got my constellation and throttle last night so not done a lot of tweaking or even testing.
Not even tried the constellation yet.

In my experience if various buttons on a stick feel awkward to reach.
It's because you are coming in from a wrong angle.
Mostly too low.

I personally find it very odd how anyone think any joystick should be plopped down on a desk and simply work.
In this regard I think the warbrd is just slightly less unsuited for that task than the t50 gimbal.

I can comment more on the grip once I actually get to try it properly.
And of course since it involves changing out something I have more than 3000 hours of flight time on I'm going to have to also push through the muscle memory for that.

From what I remember on pics etc.
The 52 was no bigger than a ch or warthog.
And the constellation is definitely bigger between the buttons than any of them.

31.5 cm with the monstertech plate replacing the WarBRD "stand" 31.25 with the delivered plate.

I have very average norm hands and to me it is hard to reach for the "down" motion I need to lift my palm from the palm rest.
Left and right Hat's I can reach normally I agree with TorTorden that it feels awkward at first but it isnt tiring in long sessions tbh.

The best sit is if my thumb rest on the wheel and has the "controller" stick in control.

It took some time as the controls where more sensitive as my previously used thrustmaster t16000 fcs but now that my left hand is used to it, I like that it needs less effort to manipulate.

The way I use it, is with the monstertech mount lowered to nearly desk level and slightly "angled" to have it facing outward a little bit.

Thanks. That's a very good point too! In retrospect, when I did try the x56 it was definitely sub-optimal being on my desk.

Thanks that's great info. I'm actually considering the Monstertech mounts too. They look easier to quick release and move between Elite sessions. I plan to release and slide them to the side of the desk when not playing Elite.
btw, how's the clearance with the Monstertech's? Not smashing knuckles? or worse - the stick? I read clearance can be an issue with the Constellation Delta's depending on height/extensions etc...
(I have no plans to use extensions, or have the mount particularly low).

Got mine finally yesterday

Yesterday I received my ordered WarBRD Delta combination. I use it as my left stick for throttle and thrustvectoring. My right stick is a Warthog. I was very excited about it and started to configure it for Elite. The 3 hat switches are fine, the thumbstick is a dream (thrustvectoring works very well and precise). What I did not like is the stiffness of the springs. After an hour of playing I changed them them with some very light springs (Ebay box full of springs from China). I do not like it to keep using to much force throtteling (y-axis) at 100%. The custom springs give the stick a very light resistance yet enough to center it to 0 when needed. It is a dream of a left stick now. I will also alter the trigger today as it is a bit to short (a simple piece of tubing will do the job). Maybe in future I will get the extensions - with them I guess the stiffer original springs will do fine.

I am going nuts...

I got mine today(constellation and WarBRD Base) hooked it up and except x and Y axis NOTHING works.

Usability on the setup is beyond crazy, I cant even get the LED to do anything.
Have already unplugged my Warthog and every other peripheral except the mouse and keyboard yet no luck at all.

HELP T_T

Did you find the solution? Got mine yesterday, had the same issue. Seemed I did not pull out de connector of the grip, u can pull it out (cable) to connect. X and Y sensor are in the base thats why they allways works, the rest goes through the cable in the stick.

Great news from Virpil regarding configuration of POV's!

https://forum.virpil.com/index.php?/topic/230-warbrd-constellation-delta-povs-as-4-way-not-8-way/

I'll explain: the Virpil Configuration software by default maps all 3 POV's as multiple Windows Input Buttons. Diagonals of these are a combo of two buttons. e.g. Up+Right, Down+Right, Down+Left, Up+Left.
Since it is easy to accidentally move a POV diagonal, i did not want the ANY inputs for these, as they would be combos, and in Elite would mean you get two bindings fire at once. Never useful for the types of things I use the POV's for. e.g. next firegroup, prev firegroup, toggle analysis mode, toggle night vision, target ahead, target next, target previous, next hostile, prev hostile, toggle Landing gear, toggle cargo scoop, toggle silent running, supercruise, hypercruise etc...
I had already discovered this could be solved in the Virpil software by configuring a POV to map as a Windows POV input (not buttons), and as a 4-way, not 8-way. However, currently the software only allows 1 of the POV's to be setup like this.
Virpil have now confirmed they will enabled configuring of the other POV's as Windows Input POV's rather than Buttons too!
