Newcomer / Intro Virtual Keyboard

Just started playing ED on Steam VR with vive and Thrustmaster T-Fligbht X but there just are not enough buttons.. I see a virtual keyboard in the cockpit but how can i use it to puch the letters to implement the ocntrols and commands. I have to keep taking my headset off to find my keyboard.. its killing me.. LOL any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i didnt even know there is a virtual keyboard in e:d. are you sure thats not from a vr overlay program? then you have to use the vive wands.
but just practice some with the "real" keyboard. I had the same problems at first but now can type without much problems with the headset on.
i have the thrusters und the left side, keyboard in the middle, stick right, and mouse on thr right edge.

I don't think so, it looks like a keyboard.. its below the left info panel if yo ulook left when you open og the galaxy map, look down.. it looks like some kind of keyboard with letters on it... which is what I need... when it tells me to hit the O button to open cargo doors.. off goes my head set and I am looking of rthe o button on my physical keyboard.

That keyboard in the cockpit is just eye candy - and not all ships have it. You can't use it in VR.
What I do:
  • dual sticks with lots of buttons (but still not enough, since I don't like to use modifiers). A reasonable HOTAS setup (like the TM 16000) is also almost sufficient, if you use two modifier buttons
  • a small keyboard attached to my chair, with integrated touchpad (turns out I don't need that, since mouse control in the menus is rudimentary) and some small rubber feet stuck to the most important keys: W, spacebar, backspace, F10. For anything more complicated (like ctrl-V), I have to lift the headset. Might stick another of those rubber feet on the V, though.
  • WIP: a custom "keyboard"/controller with keys, toggle switches and a nice big rotary encoder

Wow, just think, if the developers made that eye candy real, it could solve a lot of issues.. hearing that everyone has been asking for it for so long makes me wonder why they haven't done it... is it that hard? I'm not a developer but part of some pretty complex app dev projects with a lot of interfaces with a lot Less real estate to work with.. shouldn't really be that hard to render a field in that space with a few virtual buttons that can focus on and select like other menu functions.

Listen, they can't even code a "save as" button in your Options \ Controls menu so don't hold your breath for virtual keyboards. ;)
