Virus on ED Store ??

I've tried to re-download the client installer package, and I get a virus detected, file deleted message from the MS security essentials

Just to warn people.

Most likely false positive, what file specifically did it reference? I haven't down loaded the installwe via frontier as I have steam version but depending on settings ms essentials will flag exe files.

Are you using Internet Explorer? If so use a different browser, I used to get that message whenever I tried to download anything.

You can always upload to a site like jotti, to see if it's a FP or not.
*edit* NM, a browser problem.

I hope this doesn't happen to me, but when I want to download important stuff, sometimes my antivirus says it detects a virus and deletes the whole file without my permission. People say I need to turn my antivirus off, but I have malicious codes trying to break into my computer every now and then, so turning off my firewall and/or antivirus will allow them to hitch a ride inside on the second I disable it.

The firewall on your router should prevent anyone accessing your computer from the internet (unless you have guff up the firewall settings or opened ports yourself).

Anti-virus software protects the files on your computer (ie the files you bring to the machine yourself).

You should be able to turn off your software firewall and your av software to download and install a single .exe

If you are concerned about infected files on your computer then you should be removing that anyway not relying on AV to keep it at bay.

Are you actually getting warning messages from your firewall or AV that someone is attempting to access your computer from the outside?

Erks. I'd change the router admin password immediately, boot up a Linux box and hub it between your pc and the router, and take a good long look at exactly what is going on. Personally, if you are getting "Your PC is infected by the XLULZ virus - Click HERE to fix it!" webpages then I'd seriously consider doing a full backup of your data, doing another full backup just in case, and nuke and rebuild the machine.

Also, you can download Glasswire (firewall/monitoring) or Wireshark (network monitoring tool) to see what is going on. If you router supports logs, start pushing them to your computer and look to see what IPs you are going to when nothing is running...
