Are you using Internet Explorer? If so use a different browser, I used to get that message whenever I tried to download anything.
I hope this doesn't happen to me, but when I want to download important stuff, sometimes my antivirus says it detects a virus and deletes the whole file without my permission. People say I need to turn my antivirus off, but I have malicious codes trying to break into my computer every now and then, so turning off my firewall and/or antivirus will allow them to hitch a ride inside on the second I disable it.
The firewall on your router should prevent anyone accessing your computer from the internet (unless you have guff up the firewall settings or opened ports yourself).
Anti-virus software protects the files on your computer (ie the files you bring to the machine yourself).
You should be able to turn off your software firewall and your av software to download and install a single .exe
If you are concerned about infected files on your computer then you should be removing that anyway not relying on AV to keep it at bay.
Are you actually getting warning messages from your firewall or AV that someone is attempting to access your computer from the outside?
