Visible Damage Yet?

I remember seeing some early developers' vid of a battlecruiser or something of that ilk being attacked, and visible damage showing afterwards - like large chunks of the outside skin missing and showing the interior.

I just wondered if this was implemented yet in the Beta, even if it's only on the bigger ships like the Anaconda or Lakon 9 (guessing the smaller fry get vapourised too quickly to last that long )?

Has anyone witnessed damage like this?

I'd love to see this if it was my ship (if I had to) and especially to seeing a view in the shipyard to show the wounds - or honourable battle scars :D

Sooooon... like soooo many other things have to came soooon... :D

But its ok, we have sooooo much time till release... ;)

So the damge models will mean the health bar will be removed?
Not necessarily. Currently, the Anaconda has multiple sections that can be damaged. When one section is totally crippled, damage taken to the overall health bar when aimed at that section is greatly reduced; simulating you blasting all the gubbins off of that section and proceeding to gnaw on the much tougher support structure. Killing an Anaconda involves doing so much damage to so many sections that it basically can't physically support itself anymore, or taking out a particularly explosive subsystem. Imagine if you will, the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, except when you finish lopping all his limbs off, he does in fact die.

It was my understanding that they've backtracked on this a little. The last I remember was DB saying it would only be for the largest ships.

I presume its about time and resources. I'd still like to see it implemented for all ships but I could understand if it was rolled out over a period; resources allowing. Right now I'd be happy to just see more completed ships.

Thanks a lot for all the replies, especially the one with the link.

As an aside, I experimented with the 3D option last night. Not owning an OR, I plumped for the cheap plastic 3D glasses option that someone suggested a week back - less than £3 for 2 pairs (inc. postage!) had got to be worth a try. Not expecting much at all, and considering it's experimental by the devs, I was very pleasantly surprised just what 3D effects were achieved. The bridge on the Anaconda was very nice indeed with the various consoles standing out nicely and I really like the hologram effects of the HUD. Anyway, I digress....

I can just imagine peering into the bowels of a crippled ship, especially in 3D.

I'm enjoying this Beta so much - warts an' all - I can only wonder at what features lie in store for us all!!

Health bar shows overall integrity of the hull. Granted, case differs between big and small ships - small ones 10% integrity means they are pretty much goners if they receive any more hits, however for Anaconda it might mean flying carcass still capable to fight back.

Visual damage model representation will come "soon", regarding what we know is Anaconda is done, but others are still to be finished. Quite possible we will see them only in finished game.

Well, thanks.
