In past expeditions I have been to Beagle point (most northern star in the galaxy) and Shackleton's Star (most southern), so this time i went for the western limit, Erikson's Star. Ship was an Asp Explorer with a 71.7 ly full fuel jump range. Started out from the bubble, and followed a loose trail visiting several DSSA carriers on the way. Had an Artemis grade 3 suit that i bought from somewhere, did the job on most planets.
After a few weeks of loose exploring, some exobiology and a lot of sight seeing I was there. It was a fun trip, my first Odyssey exploration one, and i really enjoyed the varied planets you can visit. Between this, the new life forms, and the sco drive, exploration is much more interesting and fun now. Found the usual, some earth type planets, a few black holes (most already discovered though). The Void region is pretty much explored when you are reaching the limits, but there are plenty of planets to first map or land on.
Of course the highlight of the expedition was landing on the far western place of the galaxy! The complete darkness of the void west, and the spectacular views of the galaxy east, especially if you fly a bit away from the local stars. It took quite a lot of jump drive injections to comfortably reach it, since the auto route rarely works and you have to plan most jumps manually.
Nice views overall. On the way back now, probably will head towards Colonia, to revisit some old legacy ships i have parked there for years! Some photos below, i should really take more!!
