visited stars file location?

I have searched for this information and most/all point to a location in C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\... that I don't seem to have on my C drive. I do have that path but there's no visited stars file in any of the subdirectories. I know the file must be somewhere because the visited/notvisited filter appears to work correctly in my galmap.

Anyone know how to find this file location? I am interested in backing it up because I may be getting a new PC soon. thanks in advance.

In my case it's here;

C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\2102863

Results may vary!

Thanks but that's my problem. I don't have an "Elite Dangerous\ subdirectory. it's weird because it must be somewhere else.

not using Steam.

Ok. mine may be different due to when purchased it and the number of beta's and alpha's. Do you have folders called "Frontier Developments" or "Frontier_Developments" in the same location as I have the folder "Elite Dangerous", if so look in those, I believe later versions changed the folder names.

There is a brilliant program called "search everything". I can't remember the developer. Google it. It reads directly from the filesystem database and you can search for any part of filename. Nothing can hide...

OP, you may have the same issue I had. No VisitedStarsCache.dat at that location.

Hope this helps.

I found it. thanks all for the assistance. my directory structure is weird, doesn't look exactly like what the other threads describe, and there were multiple FD directories and multiple "numeric" directories which I think are for CMDR ID numbers. I don't know how that happened but I finally found it and backed it up. 🤷‍♀️

Same with mine, some are for beta's that I have never bothered to delete, did you do any of the beta's by any chance?
