Visiting secondary stars

Hi, I just want to visit Asellus Primus B
It is 0,17 Lightyears away from me, but I can only supercruise.
Meanwhile I am at 1000c speed, but it still needs 2 hours approximately.
Is there any way to get quicker to it.

Not at the moment, no. I seem to recall reading somewhere recently that they were looking at microjumps again but perhaps someone can correct me on that.

It took me about 40 minutes - SC peaked at 1675c on the way there.

I took a detour on the way back and I think I hit the SC limit: 2001c

I made 1770c as I was halfway, seems logical.
I wonder what happens when you supercruise to another star system.
I maybe should let my PC run over night and watch :D
That now is gonna be my best picture, I will save it on another hard drive :D

You don't get there. Change your target to Styx while you're cruising to Asellus B. You'll see that the distance doesn't decrease.

Indeed currently it isn't possible, however...

Supercruise is currently for in-system travel only, you have to hyperspace to a new system.

Michael
Does that mean you plan to remove this restriction?

Not that I would try it, but I know somebody else has.
Maybe, but it's not a priority. Once fuel is implemented it may become impossible anyway.

Michael

;)

Basically, if it ever comes along a reason to do this in terms of some form of gameplay they might implement it...

No, your right. :)

This is being discussed internally to allow micro-jumps between stars, no decision as yet though.

Michael

That was posted back in May though, so no idea where they are at now. My guess is that they will make this possible though in some form...

Hey I just reached it but I believe it gets scarce with my fuel. What will happen if I run out? I once activated my distress bake in mid-space in a fight as suddenly i got a refuel request.

Haven't been there since alpha, took about 50 mins to get there. Top speed was 2340c or thereabouts.

Things have changed since it seems.

There was talk about being able to hyperspace to large enough bodies.

I have two hopes for this feature
1. FDEV put something interesting at these secondary+ stars
2. They also add micro jumps, 40min+ travel in SC is just too much in my book

Otherwise, why would I bother going to them?

Slim

You do run out of fuel though, and putting out a beacon brings in the space gypsies who charge you appropriately.

It cost me 1100 credits to refuel a Hauler when I tried this. :D

For the long distance Super Cruises, shut everything down but life support, FSD and Engines, saves a bit on fuel.

In PB there was a Nav beacon out there pinging
.- ... . .-.. .-.. ..- ... / .--. .-. .. -- ..- ... / -...
but now there doesn't seems to be one.

Once outposts are in I might have to take another look see

I thought I had seen a reference in the DDA for hyperspace jumps to distant objects in the same system but I couldn't find it now. It seems a logical feature to me though.

Well it would be good to allow supercruise to another system, even if it is not possible because of the fuel, simply that you can say "Hey, this is a open world... really an open world"

I agree 100%.

It would be beautifull if it would be possible. Yes, it would be impractical. But life is all about possibilities...just knowing that it is possible gives reality to the whole gameworld. You see the distant stars and you know they are real. You can fly there without any tricks. It will take you days/years/months, but you'll get there.

If it's not possible, then the stars might as well be just an background image. So, I cannot imagine Frontier not implementing some sort of interstellar supercruise. The universe they've created is IMO just to beautifull to restrict our movement in it.

The description of exploration and scanning of unknown star systems in the last newsletter suggests that there needs to be a faster way of reaching all the bodies in-system. If not, exploration will take an unreasonable amount of time. I'm all for immersion and the real-life feel of the game, but transit times in hours would be a bit much! Micro-jumps could be realised by purchasing some sort of integrator module which links supercruise with the main hyperspace drive ??

Yup me too.
I would also prefer the jumps to be real in galaxy jumps rather than cut scenes so that you can select a star from your cockpit view (within range) and just jump toward it and you could still add some nice graphic effects on top- this would help maintain immersion enormously though no doubt there are technical restraints.
The whole awe and wonder of having a vast galaxy to explore is somewhat lost along with the open world feel if we are simply island hopping from one contained region to another.
