Visor, Visual Aid, Nightvision, Enhanced Scanners, I dont want to go bump in the dark.

After flying around in RES hunting bounties left and right, I have now smashed into my fair shares of asteroids and also left a vulture permanently plastered all over an oversized rock. yes space is a dark place but does it have to be? I mean we have submersibles going into the depths of our oceans here with all kind of spotlights, some for us to help us see and some to just lure fish closer so they can take photos. militaries and civilians alike all over the world enjoy night vision googles that "help" you see in the dark. so why dont we have this is in Elite?

Something that fits in the utility slot and enables you to do stuff like active floodlights that "automagicly" sweeps around in the asteroid fields lighting your way ahead, also it paints a huge bulls eye on your ship for sneak pirates. or something that allows our heads up display show different spectrums of light kinda like all the photos you see from space agencies here on earth, where you see the sun in all different kind of spectrums, also it would look pretty bad ass to be able to cycle visuals like the predator or for just for pretty pictures that all the explores of Elite take.

Or a mod that helps you do edge track of asteroids allowing the player to see a rough outline of asteroids making it easier to fly around in asteroids fields, or help miners see yield or type of metal an asteroid has.

There are probably people here on the forum with more knowledge of what spectrums and such would be helpful and what would only be for pretty images.

There was a bit of concept art that had what you describe (asteroids with outlines if they were going to hit you). I can't find it for the life of me though. It was in an early newsletter, I think.

It would be good if objects that were going to hit were highlighted somehow.

I have to agree, as I often enter asteroid belts to 'seek and destroy' for money right now I got excited at the prospect of using my lights (when the site had gone beyond the sun's reach behind the planet) and watching it illuminate various surfaces as I weaved in between space rocks, but after switching them on and noticing no difference what-so-ever I felt somewhat disappointed and had to float off to a different resource extraction site to do business. This was frustrating as there was only small fry in the other sites, nothing worth bigger bounties so I had to do more for less in return. If nothing better can be added to the game I feel at least the lights should have some sort of effect other than to make you more of a victim (I'm assuming it just illuminates you to other pilots right now... "Hey look at me, I'm shiny and need destroying!" - The quote of every derp in every dark corner of space, ever.).

FDev copied one major thing from this scene (Let's see who gets it first) and it's definitely a scene that influenced them. However, I'd like to see better hud projections of anything you are going to collide with. I'd also like to see huge, hollowed out asteroids like the one in the clip, dotted round asteroid fields... who wouldn't wan't to fly through one whilst being chased? I mean seriously!?!?

another carebear post space is dark your ship has lights no one forces you to farm RES in the dark

How the hell is it a carebear post? Wouldn't you think that over a thousand years into the future we would have advanced beyond "Headlights" for low light visibility? The fog lights on my Fiat illuminate just as far as the ones on my FDL... a bit daft really eh.

Everytime I think about this, waht comes to my mind is the outlining nightvision in Halo 3 ODST

The closer you are, the harder the lines are, and they are color coded too :p

I wasn't referring to the lasers... listen carefully to the sound of the seismic charges ;)

And yes!! That Halo mechanic is a perfect example of how they could implement it!

I know you weren't talking about the lasers, but still :D

Yep, something like that would definitely help.

It would also afford a distinct combat and Hide&Seek atmosphere in very dark places :)

Thermal Vision, Night Vision, Vision Enhancement (getting only a wireframe display of objects within 3-4km Range)....
Kinda like good ol' Mechwarrior II times :)

Thats what I was thinking, like for instance your running some kind of thermal vision and the ship your chasing goes silent runing and dumps heat with sinks and vanish from your current sight, maybe even launches some kind of thermal decoy, adding atmosphere and tactics.

Never played Halo but the outline thing and description of distance showing in color and harder lines sounds pretty intuitive.

I'd love night vision. Also would love a distance to astriod little display so we could know how close we are to the asteroid.

Yes, technology in 3300 should make it possible to easily detect and avoid avoid asteroids in the dark. But FD have decided that for gameplay reasons we're in ships with 19th century tech aside from FSD and shiny HUDs, like it or leave, because I highly doubt they will change that basic decision.

guys stick to first person games if you want that i do not no one forces you to fly in the dark RES and space is dark

Then if such a thing is implemented, you can refrain from using it. Personally, I wouldn't mind having the lights be useful or - failing that - have some other useful way to see things that are around me.

No one forces you to fly in an RES that is currently in shadow of the local star.

If you find it too dangerous you need only look for one that is not in shadow. You can see which ones are in shadow as you approach in sc.
