Vive displays on game launch, then bugs out. Need help.

Try loading ED today with the Vive, everything is paired correctly, DCS and other sitting games are working fine, but as soon as I try loading ED with the Vive headset on it will flash up the "Frontier Developments" logo like normal...for about 1-2 seconds, then bugs out to what looks like a VR dev mode for ED, not sure (ill try to get a screenshot on here if I can figure it out, after work). And basically just stuck there. The game will be running on my desktop as normal, but not the headset. The Steam VR app will display "(unresponsive)" logo. But not for the headset or light houses just in general it seems. But will disapear as soon as I close the game.

Others on steam are reporting the same exact issue as well

Im not sure if ED client is bugging out or the Steam VR app is, or perhaps I need nvidia to come out with a new gpu driver update.
Or perhaps I am doing something wrong idk.

Any help would be appreciated, CHEERS!

I am experiencing the exact same issue. I'm pretty bummed right now and the main reason I bought a Vive was to play Elite with the Vive. Anybody know a work-around?

have you tried switching the Steam VR mode to "direct" under devices or switching it off direct to whatever the other mode is and back again? I've only got the Rift, but it's been kind of finicky for me too.

Are you seeing like a grey background with a gradient that seems to have head tracking? Because if so, that is exactly what it is doing to the OSVR using the SteamVR plugin. Very interesting that its happening to the Vive itself as well.

I got Elite to work by rolling back SteamVR to beta 14567503340, but that was a fix for the OSVR (which one expects to be finicky, being a "hacker kit"), not the Vive. Still, you might giver it a shot if you're desperate.

Ok. I figured it out. Launch the game in SteamVR mode, like you have been trying. It will fail. Then open the game settings from the window open on your regular monitor. Go to Graphics and change the value of 3D to "HMD )Headphones)". Apply changes. This may fix the issue right away. If not, restart the game. This worked for me.

I might give this a try If I dont here back from FD support

I might give this a try as well, sent a ticket into FD support going to give it about 48-72 hours to see if I get a response back with a possible easy fix. I am just not sure how common of a problem this is. And kind of its a blackish greyish back round with a large grid floor expanding out in a large radius. It looks almost like some sort of Dev mode that FD used while developing for steam VR. But then again the steam VR app displays this red text "(unresponsive)" as soon as the game launches and disappears as soon as I close the game.

I've seen this, you can see the camera if you look for it floating in space. My game shows this screen for quite awhile on the Oculus when I launch E:D in Steam VR mode while the game is loading in a window on the main display.

If you're having problems with the Vive and steam, please launch as normal, head into the options menu and find the 3D settings options. Change this to whichever of the HMD options suits you. (You should still be able to see the options on displayed on your monitor, so remember to take off your Vive!)

If you still have problems with either the Vive or the Rift, you can send us in a support ticket and we'll be happy to help!

What? DCS world is working for you with the VIVE??

Yup this fix pretty much works, only difference was I had to have headset on and connected to get the HMD option to display in the game menu.

I imagine there will be several people who may run into same problem, and I can say if you come here having this identical issue, this fix will work. Just enable "HMD (Headphones or Speakers)" and it should pop up right away on your Vive. Or Oculus as well.

Cheers to Support-Atom and CMDR Vanguard for the help!

Why Yes, yes it does =)

I would link their website, but not sure if that goes against these forums TOS/User Agreement. Just head to the steam page and you will see the "Vive" logo above the Oculus one.
Works as well on non-steam version as well.
