The great discussion on the Fresnel lens smear on CV1 & Vive inspired me to post this.
Now that I have a few....er......a lot....of hours of Vive time in, I have to say to those of you with DK2s holding out, just do yourself a favor and get a new gen headset, your eyes will thank you. Yes the JJ Abrhams Lens Flaring around text is somewhat annoying, but everything is much clearer now.
So that one thing.
The biggest difference for me has been the Lighthouse tracking volume. I love standing up from my chair and walking around the cabin. Granted it's only a 3M by 3M fenced area, but going from the (small) tracking frustum of the Rift which has you stuck in the CMDR chair
to the large VR Holodeck room of the Vive is a whole new level. There is no more of that eyeball jarring effect of accidentally craning my neck outside the Rfit frustum and on a small ship like an Eagle you can even get a little EVA by stepping a few meters to a side. It really wets the appetite for what a VR FPS mode in ED might feel like.
Cheers!
