Vive pre potential woes....

Oculus is way ahead in experience in hardware and sofware. I have yet to hear about one single full-fledged game game working today with the VIve. Also walking around with tethered cables makes the whole concept of walking around in VR useless, unfortunately!...and oculus know it!

I think it is all wonderful. I love seeing product development duke it out on the free market.

Hopefully the devices vary enough that we can see some real feedback through competition and the next generation of HMDs will be even better and more affordable.

For my part, I'll watch from the sideline and jump in after the first gen.

Agreed. Competition helps us out in the long run (the consumer). Only problem with consumers is they can get tribal when it comes to product loyalty...and on occasion can skew facts.

HTC are the weak link for me. I guess Oculus already had Samsung and Sony are already engaged on PS4 VR.

Still LG, Moto... anyone else who either makes decent screens or who have a strong credibility in hardware manufacture.

I know a lot of people baulk at Valve but you can't really knock Steam and I've never personally even needed support from them. At least they have oodles of cash.

I'd have more confidence in Vive if it was farmed out more sensibly. Who's to say Valve will even stick with them for Vive 2 or whatever. Would be great if they had a ref arch like Steamboxes and allowed some flexibility in manufacturer. I can see this coming - then you'll have choice of performance and capability. But VR is too early for this.

For the sake of VR taking off I hope they walk the walk.

That pastebin could be real or not - doesn't really make a difference in the end. I work for a manufacturer and frankly all that craps pretty normal in any large company NPD.

Please, do not turn this thread into an echo chamber.

By and large, if all the criticism is about a non-issue, then the Vive will do well.

My name is Vic.......and I hate cables.......

I dont have the time to make a believable pastebin about durability issues with the Rift custom parts.
If rumours sway your decision as to where to spend your dollars on you are better of waiting till both are out and reviewed.

I read that someone said there were no full fledged games for the vive in this thread on a forum for a full fledged game that was at the steamvr showcase and that at the moment doesn't work with the rift 1.0 runtime and no guarantee tha t it will work with the rift at release in 3 months.

I hope HTC will be a success even if I don't buy it.

Valve need to step up their game with SteamVR. It's pretty broken now especially since the update from last week. HL2 is no longer playable on a GTX 970 whereas last year I could play it fine with 680. Judder is awful even on lowest settings.

I don't know if the bad performance is related to Oculus + Steamvr or maybe Vive is affected the same way?
