Vive Pro Preorders start today..

I am sorry but the vive pro is a scam at that price. Would never buy one. Buy a rift and set pixel density to 2 and you have a very good VR experience more than half of the price.

I'm surprised people are pre-ordering the Vive Pro without waiting 2-3 months to read the initial reviews of the consumer version Pimax 8k, especially after its beta user demos have been so good. At 200 degrees FOV, the Pimax has the potential to be a true 2nd Gen headset. That can hardly be said of the Vive Pro which is stuck at the same FOV as the original.

More FOV is what I want but all I ever read is people crying about screen door.

It probably has more to do with the track record of each. The Vive Pro is building upon a popular and solid first generation product by HTC.
The Pimax, well...

And there are some, especially who already have the Lighthouse tracking for the Vive, that are grabbing it just for the resolution it offers, and taking a wait and see on the Pimax - which still does not really have a firm release to where it is available to be ordered by the mass public afaik.

Everyone wants different things. I do not care much about fov but I do care about high resolution, vivid colours, high framerate and comfort. The Vive pro delivers all that. Without eye tracking I have a hard time to see how Pimax is going to solve high framerate with good picture quality and 200 Deg fov. I have read how they intend to solve it and I am not convinced.

Which is why my advice was to wait for the reviews of the consumer version. Ofc I fully understand anyone not wanting to wait, and I agree everyone wants different things, but if you're like me and are tired of "goggle view", the pimax may be a godsend.

My main concern with the pimax is software compatibility. Even with just the rift and the vive as established headsets, there’s still a ton of games I’ve picked up that we’re obivously designed and tested in one headset, and then poorly ported to the other. WMR headsets have the power of Microsoft behind them, and I’ve still heard plenty of reports of them being poorly supported by steam VR etc. Unless a lot changes in the software landscape, I’m pretty skeptical that devs are going to adjust their games to properly fill yet another new fov without warping or scale issues. And that’s ignoring the fact that pimax has yet to make a headset on par with rift or vive in terms of reliability.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting for them to succeed, but it just seems like a lot of variables that deserve some skepticism.

Just watched latest youtube video by frooglesim on vive pro. He calls it the holy grail for 'hardcore simmers'. I wouldn't quite go that far but certainly anyone who plays a lot of flight/space sims will be very pleased with the much improved visuals that the pro brings. Finally the ability to clearly read all those dials and text. The thing about hardcore simmers is that cost does not always factor into the purchase decision. Vive pro is way too expensive for normal vr gamers and they should definitely wait.

I received the vive pro a few days ago, it's a super upgrade from the vive and really the cost is not relevant if you like the experience and in Elite ... it is amazing .....

Is there a waiting list to purchase? Thinking of pulling the trigger on this one, have only ever tried the DK2 & CV1

I have not had an issue what so ever to read text with default red in the game. I can clearly read the first aid kit in the sidewinder. But that is with pixel density at 2. At 1 its completely different.
Therefore this pro is total waste for me. The pro probably has even better clarity but thats the only con over the rift as far as I can tell.

I had troubles getting one. The pro is not available for pre-order where I live and when the local shops got a batch they sold out in a couple of minutes.

But it is a really great piece of hardware. The Vive pro delivers almost the same gfx quality as a screen.. and do not underestimate the ergonomics

Everything looks great. I had a good blast tonight on Elite and found a pretty good 'sweet spot'. My suggestion is to set the head strap as far down as it goes, loose the top strap, put it on your head to find the sweet spot, then tighten the top strap to the right length. Personally I found that the HMD had to sit a little higher than expected to get decent all-round clarity.

I'm having sound issues with my upstairs PC and the Vive Pro and I couldn't get to the bottom of it. I ended up switching to my Hugo 2 and Shure SE846 to do some bounty hunting.

BTW, I purchased a very basic looking USB type-c to 3.5mm audio jack adapter made by UGreen. It works perfectly but not until you remove the connected headphones.
