Voice Attack and Xbox controller

Hi
Just wonder if anyone is using VA with Xbox controller. What I want to achieve is to use one of the buttons on to controller to stop VA listening (used Teamspeak yesterday and I want the same key to make TS listen and VA not to, so I can speak to my mates and not trigger crazy things on VA). This works fine with the keyboard, but it is a bit awkward when you are in the middle of a dogfight and have to press Alt for example to talk.

TS recognizes Xbox buttons but VA does not.

I guess I could use a software that translates an xbox button to keypress (googled yesterday - joytokey maybe will do the job), but perhaps there is an easier way or I'm missing something obvious :)

thx

Been trying to do the same thing with my joystick, as far as i'm aware the only way to do it is to assign the button you want to use to a keyboard key, and have VA use that key to listen/stop listening.

I start all VA commands with the word ship to stop any stupid things happening, eg ship engage drive, ship deploy hard points.

I do something similar. The key is making the voice commands unique so that when it's always listening you don't accidentally say something that could be misunderstood as a command. Basically it means no one syllable, one word commands.

For speed purposes, you might want to bark out "Gear" for landing gear, or "shields" for power to shields, or "jump" to engage the frame shift drive. But you should use two or three words. Even if you use push to talk, Voice Attack might easily misinterpret a one-word command.

Try making the command "Landing Gear" instead of gear, or "Power to Shields" instead of just shields, or "Jump to lightspeed" instead of just jump. That not only means that you can leave Voice Attack in VOX mode, always listening, but you greatly reduce the chance of VA misunderstanding what you said, making you repeat it or executing a command you didn't want.

Hi

Appreciate all the feedback. As for VA I do not have too much issues with triggering accident commands, except from once that my partner was on the phone close to me and she was switching my target panel on and of, and this was actually when I was landing so quite disturbing :)
The thing with adding extra word for VA to start listening, I do not like the idea, because already I find voice commands too slow, like speed seventy five - tapping a key is so much faster, if I make it ship speed seventy five.... well, not acceptable for me :)
My english is questionable as well, so for example "scanner range max" never works, I had to invent "sensor high" to get around it :)

Another problem is, VA recently started giving me a lot of "if if if" stuff - described in their FAQ, just wonder why it was OK for first couple of weeks, but so far not causing issues so I applied recommended solution and hope for the best :)
