Well, some months ago I went to have a go at setting up the modern Voice Attack software together with the HCS voice packs (I loved the idea of a Ship's Parrot and a Ship's Cat to say nothing of an Essex Girl as an AI assistant (Cleo)). The whole project got bogged down under the too much faff heading and whilst I was, in principle, still up for it I really just couldn't be bothered to scratch around the Net trying to find an up to date tutorial that would help me make it work.
The the other evening I came across GameGlass, a third party app that allows one to display game data and issue orders on an external touch screen. Now from long ago I have been accustomed to using three screens in a flight sim and having to come back to one, as is the modern trend (I blame VR), I find aggravating in the extreme. So an application that will run in realtime on a tablet or other tough screen gizmo that allows me custom views f the data I want to see as well as "buttons" to issue commands was going to be a winner.
Of course, GameGlass depends for its success on the same "spreadsheet" of commands as does voice attack (in one the controls are issued by voice in with the other by a touch screen which can also show views of the game data not provided by the base game. However, in both examples the application just wants to know what the keyboard command is. The bindings do not have to make sense as a human is never going to use them directly (the human will use his HOTAS or other control setup), that is why in the control setup screens there are two columns for each non-axis command.
So, if I take the trouble to create this "spreadsheet" i.e. fill in the keys for the second column of the commands I am going to get, my standard Hotas setup aside, a way of displaying customised data and issuing commands, a foul mouthed Essex Girl as my assistant, a ships parrot and a ships cat permanently at war and keeping me amused on long flights. Got to be worth a go, whether I can actually make it work is another matter.
