Voice Attack - Most common commands

Hi CMDRs

I bought Voice Attack(VA) last night. I haven't set it up yet but I'd like to ask what the most common commands[being replaced by voice] are. What is, say, your top ten commands used?

I'd like to minimize a little bit of the trial-and-error by looking at how you're affectively using VA. The intuitive and usefull tricks you've discovered

Thanks!

For me it's this.

1 request docking
2 galaxy map
3 gear down/up
4 the commands for SLF... A, attack target. B, search for targets. C, follow me........open orders and so on.
5 heat sinks.....or chaff
6 shield cell bank/also programmed to hit heat sink first.
7 system map
8 cargo scoop down/up
9 lights on/off
10 music !

Those are the ten most used by me according to how I play. But I have programmed many more.

Landing Gear deploy/retract
Cargo Scoop Deploy/retract
Afterburners - boost
Engage Frameshift
Engage Super Cruise
Power to weapons
Power to systems
Power to Engines
Balance power
Disengage Frameshift
Lights on/off

Couple those with your button commands on a HOTAS for all your targeting and throttle needs and it all becomes second nature so really adds to the VR immersion.

I can already see a a couple that will be great advantage. Docking request will be replaced straight away! Now, looking at just the two reples here, I'm thinking about what HOTAS button commands, such as landing gear and cargo scoop, that I could replace with VA and use those buttons for something else.

Excellent, please keep them coming

I use VA to:
-toggle panels
-toggle galaxy and system map
- manage cargo scoop
-power mgmt.
-engage jump
-targeting and FA control sometimes
-play music

Another tip....

I purchased a numpad cheaply ( £1.50 ) and doubled up the buttons so they are twice as big. Then placed this between the hotas throttle and stick. I don't use VR myself but can assure you that with a little muscle memory, mashing these big buttons can be done accurately with out looking !

I will take a pic tomorrow when the sun is up so you can see ! Also happy to help out with macros and such.

I have a Saitek X52 with pedals, and this next to my trottle control, is it what you mean by numpad? It's easy enough to use blind

Yes similar. Except I chose the super cheapo option which is basicly a calculator/numpad attached to a USB cable. Hehe

Ah, yes I think I know what you mean - People rip them apart to mount in make-do cockpits for their home sim. And you've given me more ideas :D

You might want to take a look at what's offered here http://www.hcsvoicepacks.com

These can really add to the immersion, and come with voice attack profiles already set up.

I've been using the Astra pack for quite some time and can vouch for the quality and support from these folks.

I bought ORION pack with Voice Attack :D

I'm very much an "Oh, that's a cool thing! Yes, I'll gladly pay/support you for it*" person

I combined a few commands and then put it under a joystick button again.

If I'm attacked I admit and then I press a button:
Select next target
Power to shields
Boost

Now I look what hits me en decide to flee or fight back.
You can imagine what both buttons all do.

Scanning a system is also a good example:
I say "scan":
Next firegroup
Press the scan button for 5 seconds
Previous firegroep.

If somebody is speaking to me:
Open Comms
Select input field
Type "Hello, I'm sorry, I'm in VR, Can't type, o7"
Close comms

Comms is a big one, dree, for me as a VR player. Does that aspect work well, for you?

Eh, no but what else can man do?
Some automated "Hello" And o7's will do but if someone is still talking back I hold my
Vive above my head with my right hand and lean forwards to my keyboard and type...

The whole VR community is begging for an in-game keyboard for comms and Galaxy map.

I don't trust VA with anything important. I don't want to lose all my cargo by sneezing. My most used commands are:-

recentre the VR headset
move backwards at full speed
move forwards at top speed and full engine pips
target the highest threat
full pips to weapons
fire off a shield cell and a cooling heatsink
fire off chaff
change gun layout
press ctrl 'v' to paste any text I'd copied
show galactic map
show system map

Also if you are looking for a few spare buttons, don't forget about the ones on your mouse.

I "was" a VA user and here it is a list of my preferred commands:

- galaxy map
- system map
- power to engines/weapons/systems
- landing gear (without up/dow, just toggle)
- ship lights
- docking request
- undock (a nice routine that puts your ship ready to run out of the station)
- coustom commands for 0% 25% 50% 75% 100% speed, sorry I can't remember the voice commands for that. Kinda usefull in supercruise.

Today I don't use VA anymore. My new setup is joystick + keyboard. I have many key combos that open a new way to use my joystick without having to blindly search for buttons. I hold SHIFT and all joystick buttons are bound to chaff/HS/SCB, CTRL key for targeting, backslash key for FSD commands and so on. Power management is bound to joystick hat.

For text comms I touch type. Worth it learning, expecially now that I'm in VR ;)

Thanks Frank and Juke, I have repped to much today :)

As I have the full X52 HOTAS, plus rudder pedals, plus the Razor Nostromo... I'm not short of buttons, but there's a few there I'm going to add right now. Things that I usually use the menu for - the maps, some simple voice to text comms, docking request. Great idea. I'm going to double-up on a few things, my chaff, heat sinks, shield boosters dp have buttons but I'm going to VA them, for sure. Part of this is simply novelty, interacting with the ship and that's why I bought a voice pack at the same time.

This is neat I'm quite excited to set it up! I wont be learning to touch type any time soon, I've been typing with my eyes facing the general direction of the keyboard for 30 years it's not going away lol. I got the Nostromo because it's difficult just to get to my KB, when I'm set up for Elite.

Can I ask one more question; Voice packs, favored ones? I got ORION just for Shatner, but I can't imagine using it full time

I use Kate and I cannot live without her anymore and I won't change to some other pack.
It's all personnel I think, some commands are better under a button some are better with a VA command.
You're right, a lot of VA commands are just for the fun of it or laziness.

Forgot a couple I use a lot

Increase sensors
Decrease sensors
Increase sensors maximum
Thank you (response Your welcome)

You will find your personal favorites - for me some things just make more sense on a button or hat especially targeting, moving around menus, thrusters others might try and cram everything they can into a voice command. Good luck definitely worth the effort. Using ASTRA for over 2 years now.
