Voice Attack - Navigate Panels

For anyone using Voice Attack and wishing to use it to navigate to the "panels" (system, target, coms), they know because there is not a dedicated key to return to the front (standard) view, doing this is not straight forward. Here is a simple guide to my solution.

First of all, this solution uses "Conditions". There are currently only available in the beta test version which can be downloaded here - http://www.voiceattack.com/beta.aspx

For a video example/demonstration click here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nez2wU64StA

Note: If you use any keys/buttons to manually move to a panel instead of Voice Attack, then of course Voice Attack may behave strangely as it believes your in one panel, when infact you may be in another!

Here are screen shots of the code required.
Note, I have the following key binds in ED:-
1 - Target Panel
2 - Sensors Panel
3 - System Panel
4 - Coms Panel

Target Panel (eg: "1" key)

Systems Panel (eg: "3" key")
va2.png

Coms Panel (eg: "4" key")
va3.png

Sensor Panel, to return view forwards (eg: "2" key")

...and one more line...

note: I'm sure other/better(?) solutions exist, so please do feel free to post them :)

I use a TrackIR mostly for this, but having VA able to do it to helps. Thanks for the post.

I have ED Tracker, but I still find for dedicated "work" in the panels, moving to them in the traditional way, rather than looking at the panels works far better.
1) You have to look around a bit to find the panel at times.
2) The panel is smaller than when moved to in full.
3) I find it quicker/easier for things like resolving the KW-Scanner result - You're in the middle of chasing/following someone and simply say "left" to see the KW scan result (assuming you're on the Contacts tab), followed by "front".

Hi - conditions - nice, I did not know they have this one coming - thx

The way I use VA, when I say "Comms" it presses 1 and when I say "comms off" it presses 1, so it works OK, am I missing something? :)

How do you go to the left panel? Do you say "left" or do you say "target panel" or something?

I guess you could do "target panel;target panel off" bind to your key. You could also even do a "say {CMD}" for it to repeat your command if you want.

Hi
To go to the left panel I actually say "comms" - don't ask why, just started like this and got use to it :) This triggers "1" key, I actually could say the same thing to get the panel off, but I'm using Voice Responce Compilation, so to get a different response i actually say "comms off" but this also triggers "1" key. Voila - panel on, panel off ;)

Of course your method is more advanced and proper, you can go to the center view no mater where you are, but I usually know which panel I want to hide so it works, sometimes I prefer simple way :)

Have a dumb question when I use Track IR it disables the button presses to go to 1,2,3,4 respectively so would I need to add a command to turn off Track IR camera?

Can't comment form experience...

But it sounds like you have the added complication of turn head look off on the way to the panels, and turning it back on again last thing after returning view to the sensor panel.

Let us know how you get on :)

I use a similar method as Baton.

For my left panel (eg navigation, contacts, missions etc) I have two phrases for one command to press the 2 key. Open left panel;Close left panel.

Same for my right panel, comms and radar. Its simplistic I know, but it works. I've only been using VA now for a couple of days.

If you're not intimidated by the macro (record) function, you can actually get pretty slick with opening and closing your panels. ;) And I believe I've seen a few people using the macro function for docking requests.

On a side note: If anyone is not satisfied with the default Windows TTS, you need to check out Morphvox (or any other voice changer software) to create your own responses. Spent the other night creating some wav files....what a blast and so much cooler than using ol Microsoft Anna.

Cheers,

B1

Simple is good! Less to go wrong! :)

I'm not familiar with a "macro (record) function"? And the problem with docking requests is surely the path to the docking request is not concrete. ie: The path/keys may differ.

Just a thought, but if a TIR/VA user that is struggling to accomodate keeping their head steady while looking at screens, why not build in an F9 command to disable Track, then a pause, then the command to view the panel.
This should be possible from just saying Nav screen/ contacts etc.

When you create a new command (or edit one), there is an option located near bottom left called, 'record/recorder', iirc. Once pressed, click on start recording and VA records a sequence of key presses of your choosing. There are options associated described in the VA doc when, 'recording'.

This is simpler to pressing, 'key press', where you assign multiple key presses one by one as opposed to assigning multiple key presses in one go per command (record/recorder).

However, as tested, the circumstances dictate last activation of the, 'target panel'. In so far as, anything highlighted other than, 'navigation', the sequence of key presses were unreliable.

You are correct in that the path/key assignments are subjective upon configuration, and or, last activation of the target panel. :D

I think this is what someone mentioned above. ie Doing a head look off on the way to the panel... and then a head look on after returning view front from it.

I'd be interesting if people get this work!?

Yes, it works fine apart from a pause of a couple of seconds between the F9 command invoking TrackIR suspension and the bound key moving the view to the side panel. Turning the panel off does not involve a pause.

The only glitchy part is if you go to the galactic map - closing it issues a default "close left panel" command and sends you back to the HUD, but TrackIR will still be suspended and needs to be turned back on.

Even with the slight delay in opening the panels I prefer this to the profile method with snap-to areas over the panels, as I find deadzones particularly annoying and never incorporate them.

Advanced Panel selection with voice attack

Hi there

I've been tinkering around with the beta version of voice attack, which allows you to use conditional statements.

It basically means you can add logic to your voice commands.

Ive set up a control set where you can say the panel name to open it, regardless of what other panel you are on, it works for the most part but occasionally it will be a tab short.

The panel sets are:
Right Panel: Navigation (tab1) Missions (Tab2) Contacts (Tab3) Sub Targets (Tab4) Cargo Scan (Tab5)

Left Panel: Status (tab1) Modules (Tab2) Fire Groups (Tab4 Cargo (Tab5) Functions (Tab6)

To use it make sure both panels left and right are set to the first tab and initialise by saying "Reset Panels"
(you can also use this to reset if they get messed up, just make sure that the left and right panels are on the Navigation and Status Tabs)

When you are docked the Sub Targets and Cargo Scan panels on the left side are in-active.

So that things don't mess up once you are docked say "Docked" and this will disable those tags in Voice Attack.

When you are back in flight Say "Launched" to re-enable them.

Its not perfect sometimes you end up being a tab short, especially if you are going from the right panel to the left panel.

But you can go from Navigation on the right panel and jump directly to any of the right panels.

There is a half second delay between the panel switches, i had to put this in as it caused a lot of misjumps to the tabs.

YOU NEED TO HAVE THE BETA VERSION OF VOICE ATTACK TO USE THIS PROFILE!!!! you can download it from the voice attack site and register it with the same key you use for the normal version.

Click here to get the profile from my DropBox.

Let me know what you think :)

Actually Gary just put out the latest version of Voice Attack today, which has everything that was in the beta so far, including conditionals and plugin support.
