Voice attack packs for sale.

I like the idea of having a voice pack with the same metallic ring that the in-game voice uses.

But this site is clearly misleading. They only offer the voice pack for sale, but the videos linked seem to imply that you get a lot of the voiceattack and elite:dangerous functionality as part of their package somehow.

Then again, can you really do anything against it? I guess the best counter measure would be if Frontier themselves would release the official in-game voice as a pack... hint hint... :D

no, if was official they would be selling them through the shop, not a random web page that also does star trek stuff. besides, have a look at the questions and you will see its nothing to do with FDev:

What do you do with the money you get for the Elite Dangerous Voice Pack?
I use it to pay for the licence of the voices, the hosting and domain name of the site. I haven’t made enough money for anything else – If I do, I’d be happy to donate to more crowd funding of the game. :) Oh, and advertising is not cheap.

now you've posted it i'm sure FD will get their IP lawyers right on it, its a blatant breach of the media usage rules as they use assets from the game for promotional purposes without clearly displaying the disclaimer, plus the MUR forbids making money from anything FD without first seeking express permission to do so.

if you want to have a look at the media usage rules they can be found in the fan creations forum HERE

This site isn't misleading at all. It offers a voice pack for use Voice Attack and ED, nothing more. It's 3rd party software for the ED community.

Even though it runs outside of Elite and doesn't modify any code, by using the 'Elite Dangerous' product name to sell a product I would envisage it's an extensions to that copyright and those extensions have a copyright of their own (FD).

unless ofc they has obtained prior permission from FD and stated on there website that it's an unofficial product of Elite.

It's actually quite a nice pack for a small price.

Best leave this one to FD to deal with, although i'm sure they have lots on there plate.

I do find it strange that they seem to think they can have a copyright on ED
Copyright © 2014 Elite Dangerous Voice Pack for Voice Attack -
now if it had been Voice pack for Elite dangerous it would be diff ....

I'm sure there's nothing underhanded or illegal intended. I havn't bought it, but it seems to just be a collection of sound bites and possibly a profile for VoiceAttack.

At worst the producer has just failed to put in some appropriate disclaimers and attribution to make it transparent that this is not an "official" VoiceAttack or Frontier Developments product, but that doesn't seem to have been done intentionally. Probably just ill-worded through inexperience.

He can do that. He created the voice pack content, so he can copyright it. It's 3rd party stuff that will get ED going and keep it going. What next, ban youtube ED videos?

I think the producer just needs tread carefully with the product IP and copyright, I'm not knocking his work it seems put together at a high standard and is offering support and updates. His intention may be just to cover his time and costs and to supply the community with something they will find useful.

I would run it past FD see if they are okay with it and the small applied charge, if they are not then perhaps ask to offer it for free to the community with a donation box, I would gladly donate.

Maybe he has already received approval.

Yes, he needs to splatter the site with the fact the ED is copyright and a trademark owned by FD.

FD should tread with care over community generated content too, lest they forget who funded them in the first place.

He can copyright the voice pack but not Elite Dangerous and using ED before voice pack is wrong ,as I said it should be "voice pack for Elite Dangerous" what has youtube to do with it ?

Yes he should swap the wording around.

ED videos on youtube make money, that's what it's got to do with it.

So it's not official, but I doubt they are going to do anything about it. Soon they will want to sell a game and I don't think picking on something someone has made to enhance ED is going to increase profits. Actually it might do the opposite. Many people are already using voice attack. Adding voices and stuff. All he's doing is taking out the many hours of donkeywork required beforehand.

I have it, and its just sound files that can be used with Voice Attack and personally I like the voice the creator has used and add's a ton of immersion for my Elite Gameplay.

I dont see anything illegal/misleading about it, and the creator is quite good at communicating about his sound files and taking feedback.

Voice attack and any sound files anyone creates to use is great fun, I just choose the above mentioned sound file pack and I am rather happy I did. :)
