Voice Attack Question:

Now that I've got a pc, I'm toying with the idea of getting the voice attack program.
Any pro's and con's about it would be helpful.
And, does it work on both ED and SC?

pros one of the best program's ever written worth ten times the asking price.
cons wont work well if you like your 7.1 surround system set to pink Floyd vol levels.
can be hard for people with strong dialects to get windows to recognize there voice correctly in the first place......
as you may have heard works brilliant with ED as for SC if you mean star cit of course...……………... it will work with anything even just notepad if you want it too
(I have a fully voice controlled WW2 gar class submarine too ) all my games have varying levels of self programmed voice control including the new doom eternal
programming it is extremely easy for any games you play
personally I don't use pre made voicepacks and have made my own for each game I use it for
for eg when I say "landing" whilst playing elite that's "ma" in ancient sumerian by the way
voice attack presses default keyboard control key L bound to landing gear control
and plays the sound from the drop ship's landing gear hydraulics from the flim Aliens as a personal sound enhancement
my seismic charges make the same sound as the ones in the starwars movies for eg
and my frame shift drive sounds like it has outlawed class 3 military drives fitted (taken from amiga elite 2 as a fan of retro)
as for the ships voice responses mine speaks Sumerian similar to the engineers in promethius movies
(you will need basic audacity skills to make your own voicepacks)

BIG CONS N.B
b4 you buy this programme use windows voice recognition programme and set it up for oral dictational training
this will be required by voice attack anyways so might as well get pc started on learning your voice patterns......
the more you use the training (rec min 2 times) the better voice attack will accept your commands oddly this is the hardest thing to do if you cant speak like her majesty the queen does but once done you can get voice attack to understand and respond to ancient greek or starwars bocce commands if you wanted it too

I did as you stated and ran the windows voice set up, did it three times.
installed the programs trial version and without changeing anything, took a look around.
got bored and clicked on discord and the pc narrator started reading the last input to all three of the discords I involved in.
Looked and looked, asked anyone that would offer assistance and even did a internet search as to how to shut off the dam narattor. Tried 10 different suggestions and none worked. Ended up reinstalling windows and all my programs.
Needless to say the program trials version sucks or I did something wrong by looking around.

sorry you lost me at narrator? that's not voice attack?
that soundslike windows narrator I dunno I have never used it?
I just looked up how to close it?
  • Click the Start menu, and choose Control Panel.
  • Click the Ease of Access category.
  • Choose the Ease of Access Center.
  • In the Explore All Settings area, click Use the Computer without a Display.
  • Uncheck the checkbox called “Turn On Narrator,” then click the OK button.
there is no pc narrator on voice attack as far as I am aware?
maybe you switched this on somehow via speech recognition training? you only need to complete the part were it gets you to read out sentences ie train your pc too understand you better twice then shut down windows speech recognition widjit if open and close down windows
then reboot and run voice attack and try setting a new profile called elitevoice for eg and then new command when I say "landing gear" (you don't input the speech marks)
press key L for 0.2 sec and release (as long as your landing gear is still bound to keyboard default L that is)
then click done
then test your first test command in ed you can re-edit to add a sound effect or voice response to that command later

if you don't want to program it yourself download and install a pre made ed voicepack there are some free ones to my knowledge but like I say I made my own
astra is a paid for one I believe
and Anubis is a free one

I agree, the window's narrator has nothing to do with the voice attack program. I've never every utilized narrator and have no idea how it managed to start.
I went to the web and utilizing every possible path to shut it off including going into the inner workings of files one shouldn't ever edit. And nothing worked, I uninstalled programs reinstalled them, all for nothing, I apparently got a bug, virus, worm etc. Found it to be faster, to do a windows reset. having only a couple of my own programs such as ed, sc it didn't take as long as the time I had already waisted.

I use VA with Astra and Verity HCS voice packs along with EDDI.

It takes some serious patience and experimentation to get everything set up properly and working together, but once you get it right there's nothing better.

Adjusting volume levels and threshold recognition settings is critical to getting good consistent results. It is a process that will vary a bit depending on you individual hardware and the acoustics of the room you're in.

Well worth the effort if you're into ED and it does work with SC as well.

But it does take some dedicated tweaking to get it "just right."

TOP TIP

When you set up your commands, listen to what VA thinks you say e.g. you say 'Deploy weapons' but VA thinks you said 'Enjoy lemons', set VA to listen for 'Enjoy lemons' AS WELL AS 'Deploy weapons'.

That way it become increadibly reliable. :)
