Hardware & Technical Voice Attack - recommendations for headset?

Hi

I am after a headset for ED. The mic is more important than the speakers I guess as I want to use Voice Attack. I was thinking maximum spend £50 - recommendations anyone?

Thanks
J

Yes I have one of those. Its very light in weight and super comfortable. Good bass and very clear. The mic is good too, and can be unplugged for if you just want to listen to music.

While you do need a decent mic to pick up things well, remember that VA is dependent on Windows voice recognition, which can be hit or miss even with a high dollar microphone. Be sure to train it in Windows a number of times, and if you're doing VA macros yourself, remember that it works basically by looking at the matches it gets through Windows and comparing it with the command words. What words and how you combine them can be an equal or more important thing that how well Windows picks up your words.

An example, the PREFIX/SUFFIX combination commands trigger better than the single words by themselves, because while a match of only say 70% for each word might happen in bad listening conditions, put together that's a match better than 70% in VA logic, so it triggers.

When I started playing the game and had gotten VA along with ED, I got a cheap SADES headset. Most of my commands, especially the frequent ones usually hit at 90-100%, which could have been both the choice of word(s) as well as Windows learning through repetition. And through trial and error I have had some commands that I discarded and found better words for due to them not working well.

So, get a good headset for a lot of reasons, but remember it's just one part of the whole thing.

I stole.. I mean borrowed... my lad's Turtle Beach X22 thingies... not bad as all, and as I paid for them in the 1st place...

Think I got them from argos for about £20

I use VA and a HCS voicepack and I had an miserable time with accuracy using a number of gaming headsets. Turtle beach x12 and other similar headsets have terrible mics for VA.

I basically work in a call centre and managed to get my hands on the headsets we use there. A combination of the Plantronics HW291N and the slightly cheaper HW251. My accuracy jumped from around 60/70% to 97%+.

They are one of the best mics to use for voice recognition bar none though, yes, the actual speaker in the headset isn't really good for games.

If you can get a set, even 2nd hand, then do it, You will not regret it.
