Get a HCS voice pack for it, full instructions come with it and it is worth its weight in gold.

I used to have issues where I had galaxy map bound to left shift and rebound power management to Lshift + up/down/left/right
If I said max engines then it’ll open the map
So as long as your bindings aren’t as dumb as mine, you should be ok

How much is HCS, and will a gaming headset do as a microphone?

Gaming headsets fine, you'll need to train your speech engine quite a few times. Also you don't need to purchase HCS, I use there original A.S.T.R.A pack, my commands are all custom built since my HOTAS and bindings are not default.
Not sure if K.I.C.K.S is still around, freeware and very good. I still have the files if you want them.

That’s the one, you’ll need VoiceAttack to issue commands to your ship
The HCS voice pack isn’t necessary, but it does add another’s layer of immersion and they have programmed some really helpful commands to use
Use the voice packs you will neeed VoiceAttack

I have a few HCS packs, all excellent and very different.
Latest patch lets you select a different pack from the voice command, adds untold immersion to an increasingly bland game.

While i found the packs to be quite good for their purpose i was a bit dissapointed with how little they actually interact without user input. I havent tried the new update though and with some luck this will be addressed or built upon for future releases. Just me though i know some absolutely love it and it does come in handy.

You don’t need to change the bindings or learn what you made if you’re gonna get a voicepack. They have something that reads your bindings and automatically adds it

I'm currently on my mobile, and away from home. On the HCS voicepacks, can I preview them on their website when I get back home?
Nah, I don’t think so, I YouTube’d them
ObsidianAnt has done a couple videos on them
Might look into Orion when I have some spare cash

I have several HCS voicepacks and now can't imagine playing Elite without them. It's kind of how I felt after getting my TrackIR.
Definitely recommended!
They have a Discord server, too, where you can get help if you have trouble settings things up.

Do you use 'invoke on', 'interaction on' commands? Lots of interaction and assistance when enabled.
