Bought it ages ago, used it, stopped using it, not necessary, highly annoying when you absolutely 100% need that button to be pressed you cannot trust it. Feel silly for talking to your pc about 1 day after buying it.

It generally works well, but doesn't fit in with other people talking in the background, also when people are behind you and there is ambient noise such as a TV or whatever, also said people watching TV don't appreciate you shouting "Boost" every 10 seconds... perhaps in a man cave it would be ok, where no one can hear you talking/shouting at a machine :)

I hadn't thought of using my buttocks for VA. Do you have a special mike or are you loud enough naturally? :p

No problems for me either. I've now got a hybrid accent and VA still works a treat. I did the voice training about 5 or 6 times.
I only feel an idiot if other people can hear me. As Jezzah says, it frees up buttons.

I don't have any issues with VA at all.

If you're struggling with it check for background noise, including any mild static that may be introduced from your mic.

Training it is key, as is training yourself to leave appropriate gaps between normal speech and actual VA commands.

Finally don't bind anything important to anything you might say accidentally...

Tried various kinds of of voice controls over the years, downloaded VA and played around with it a little but I don't really feel the need.

I have enough buttons on my HOTAS and don't have issues using the keyboard when wearing the rift. Moreover I dislike using headsets and listen to music at a rather high volume whilst playing and I wouldn't want to check an entire playlists lyrics for expressions like "landing gear" or "boost" before playing.

Yes - I know there's PTT, but when I push a key to activate voice commands, I can just as well push the appropriate key and achieve what I want to do without talking and the added latency.

Last but not least, it makes me feel a little silly, but that's not the reason deterring me - I don't mind feeling silly all that much ;).

I don't find it odd, I think it adds to it.

If nothing else, I can remember what to say when I cant remember which key I bound something to when I am under attack or if it is too dark to see the keys but switch the lights on will create glare in the screen.

Works fine in my man cave. Never had an issuer even with the sound of the aircon in the background.

I wouldn't be so stupid as to use it around other people and expect it to a) work perfectly and b) not annoy others.

Most silly poll ever? Yep.

I use it for a select few actions but don't rely 100% on it.

Adjusting power balance during combat is my main one so that I have more control while flying and is slightly quicker than using controls as it requires multiple actions to rebalance correctly.

However, if others are around it does sounds daft so in those cases I just use the standard controls.

I do feel silly talking to my computer. (The fact that mife wife makes sure to laugh at me when using it doesn't help.) I generally feel a bit embarrassed using voice comms. I'm not sure why.

Still, despite this it's a damn cool tool that makes the game more enjoyable. But I only use it for non critical stuff (maybe a 80% success rate with my crappy €20 headset). An exception to that would be power management, especially if you are using a 5 button mouse.

So while I feel sill using it, I'd have to vote no in the poll because VA is a superb addition to the game.

I don't think it is silly...

I do think it's *unnecessary* for ED. I have a FLY-5 to my right, with about 14 keys on the right side of my keyboard bound to the commands for which the FLY-5 does not have enough buttons.
I'd use my Nostromo as a HOTAS setup, but I'd have to then ferk about setting it up.

It's certainly a cool and useful thing and I probably will try it out at some point, although I play late at night and will likely wake the Mrs if I talk too much...

I think it's of more use in something like Star Citizen, where you need to do fifty things at once in order to merely fly straight!

Not Silly at all, Its quite functional, and makes the game more immersive.

You might look silly, but thats as far as the sillyness goes.

I have a profile mapped so i can open any tab from any panel or view just by saying the tab name, and its set up so i can mix keyboard commands with it and it does not go out of sync.

Simple things like saying "request Docking", saves you 3-4 key presses.

It helps make things more fluid, I love it.

A bit biased poll. Could have just asked if people find it useful or not.

Anyway, like any extra addon tool it can be over used, and I have done a few macros where in action I realized that it was easier to do it myself than have a command, and I was using VA because I could, not that it helped. But I've found it a great extra hand for a number of things, especially those that require a macro, where it was faster and allowed me to focus on other things.

Could I play ED without it, sure. But I enjoy using VA as an extension, and it frees up buttons for things that I'd rather control directly. And no, I don't feel silly talking to my computer, I think it adds to the feeling of the futuristic setting.

Whatever works for each player.

Voice Attack is a great little addition for E D, well it is for me anyways.
I use a RAZER keyboard and keypad with their macro's, and a HOTAS, and voice attack while playing.
No complaints from me about it. Handy program.

VA is simply a great tool, yes on very rare occasions the spoken command is not recognized on the first try but it is a rather rare occurrence. i can only recommend this tool, makes the game more immersive and pretty much prevents accidental key presses.

It helps if you do some of the MS voice training exercises. Obviously you need to be in a quiet environment for it to be 100% reliable and ideally you need to use it with a headset. However, I've managed to use it fine with my 5.1 speakers blearing away. I mostly use it for power distribution during combat - extremely handy.

But nothing beats leaning back in your chair, arms on the rests, and confidently saying "engage" to start the frameshift drive. Now that's immersion!
