voice attack, tricky problem.

I have been using voice attack for elite quite a while now, i have a good downloaded voice pack and profile, i slightly changed it for my needs. (not much).

It normally works fine, but my problem is that after a while of use, maybe 20-30 mins, it seems to stop recognizing my commands.
If i alt-tab out and restart the program (voice attack) then it works fine again for a while, then i have to repeat the restart.

has any one else noticed this, and is there a quick fix you found.

I'm also using VA and i've been playing for quite some hours some of these days (A LOT) and never had a problem with VA nor E:D, im not sure what your problem is but at least here im having no problems, i had to switch my mic because my old one wasnt picking my voice properly, but that was hardware problems.

Side note, Been using voice attack, but haven't figured out how to get it to 'talk back'. It just quietly accepts my commands.

In the command click "other" from there use the drop down and select "play sound" from there point it to a sound you wish played and thats all there is to it :)

Under the same "other" drop down menu, there is also "say something with text to speech" and you can type in the desired response

I stopped using VA a while ago after a few too many funny looks from the better half, but I also experienced similar issues, just so you don't feel alone ;)

Quite random, intermittent lack of response, and if you look at the commands window (the one that lists what it thinks you're saying) it'll be lagging behind, if its the same thing. I used to fix it the same way as you did, so no help whatsoever I'm afraid.

Voice attack has an option to 'Start listening' on any command. If I find it losses focus I will say 'Wake up' or 'Focus' or 'start listening' the ships computer will confirm it's back online. You can say anything you want, just make sure the command has 'listen' selected.

For me it might drop out after a few hours. I simply say the command and it's back to normal again

I have been using it for an ungodly amount of hours nearly every day for a month or two now without any issue.

Run the speech recognition training again (I ran it four times total).
Try updating your audio drivers.
Run VA as Admin.
Last resort, export your profile to a secure location, use Geek Uninstaller to uninstall VA (verify your profile is not selected as a "leftover file").
Reinstall VA (Run installer as Admin).

Wish I could help more, just an odd problem I have not experienced and not enough information to narrow down the source or eliminate other variables.

thanks, that idea sounds worth a try, yes it does seem to lose focus.

I have trained the voice 6-7 times, run it as admin, and recently re installed with new version, but it has always been having this issue.

I have been having exactly the same issue for a long time with VoiceAttack and I'm about to give up on it.

Let me be clear about one thing - I have trained Windows Voice Recognition and when VoiceAttack works, it works perfectly. After about half an hour of use, it stops recognising voice commands totally.

Points of interest:

  • Just after it stops working, it prefixes everything it detects with "if" - as shown in the screenshot below
  • After it stops working, when I click on the Listening Button, it won't toggle Listening mode, it simply states each time "Listening suspended" - as shown in the screenshot below.
  • Once it stops working, I need to exit the program and restart it, at which time it starts working correctly again. Nothing else I do appears to fix it once it has stopped working.

One of the other things that slightly annoys me with VoiceAttack is how it takes about 5 seconds to redraw the Profile commands window when ED is running (ie I've just switched back to Desktop). I wonder if anyone else experiences this?

im having the same bug may be a problem in the code or a memory leak might be worth emailing this thread to the voie attack support since im now not alone on this issue

There is an option in settings to "disable Adaptive Recognition". Might give that a try as it adjusts listening to background noise.

I had the same problem, It was inserting "If" or "in" before every command I gave. I cured the problem by reducing the gain on my headset Mic, this worked and no more problems, was a pleasure to get the correct response every time.
Yesterday the problem reoccurred, I checked the gain setting and found it had somehow reset to +20% again, no idea how it did that, I set it to 0 again and now its working.

This is interesting. Although obviously in my case I don't get the problem manifesting until after an hour of play. Until then it works flawlessly, so in my case I'm not sure it's a microphone issue. I've checked levels too. However your case is still interesting.

I forgot to add that the problem I had took 30+ minutes to manifest, it worked fine initially and just progressively got worse almost like the gain was causing some kind of slowly increasing feedback.
or it was just the result of a memory leak as previously mentioned, I will check memory use next time I use it.

Glad i started this thread, i know i am not alone in this problem, and some good idea's to try, the mic gain could be one as i have mine set to full (so will try that), the adaptive response, and the start listening command to try get focus back, will be trying all these later today.

Yes the time varies 30min- sometimes longer, always works perfectly to start, then degrades, missing a few commands, then not recognising any eventually.
Close the program and restart, perfect again. weird.

And yes, maybe send a link to voice attack forum, see if the author of voice attack might have a fix.

trouble is i love using voice attack, my memory not as good these days to remember all the switches and keys.
I also intend using it later for SC when that gets going, and that has even more complicated commands than Elite.

Voice attack and similar programs are just plain brilliant! I used to play an F-16 sim and being able to command my wingmen to execute tactics or talk to the tower to request takeoff/landing clearance just helps a lot with the immersion.

Have you tried putting in some commands to "wake up" VA? Put in a command that will recognize phrases such as "Hello" or "Computer!" and then have it execute a line that will make VA turn Listening On. The next time this happens (VA not responding), take a screenshot of the program or the recognition log window and that might provide further clues as to what has happened.

I had a problem with "if" -like words at the beginning of my statements, too. Turns out the program is trying to interpret breathing (an inhale before speaking). Try adjusting volume or sensitivity levels.

Microsoft speech recognition engine automatically adjusts microphone volume on the fly and there is no way to disable it. It is made worse by having adaptive recognition enabled, this assumes that every sound picked up by the microphone is intended as a command for Speech recognition to interpret, and it attempts to learn and improve the user profile while it is in use, however it also adjusts sound volume based on any sounds picked up by the microphone. This is the reason the developer of VA has added an option to toggle off adaptive recognition, this causes it to ignore all sounds it doesn't recognise.
