Voice Comms are Fun & Sound Great in Elite: Dangerous! Good Job Frontier!

Yesterday I had the chance to fly in Elite: Dangerous with 2 of my coworkers. We formed a group, went group play, and turned on the in game voice comms. I was super surprised at the quality and awesome job that Frontier has done with this part of the game. When you speak to the other CMDRs, it mimics the squelch sounds and background radio interference you can hear during NASA / FKA missions. I didn't even know this was part of the game until we grouped up and flew together. (Which in itself changed the game 180 degrees into something totally different from solo play.) I wish there was a youtube vid showing it off. I didn't even know the game had in game voice. Someone should get the word out. :) You can even hail other player ships and connect up with voice comms as well.

Together, we'd fly into Unidentified Signal Sources (USS) and various asteroid belts / planet rings and debris fields. Help each other get the wanted's hull down to about 10% then take turns on who gets the kill shots. And it was super useful when one pilot would jump into the USS, describe what was there and that way we'd know if we should jump in after him through the wake, or start looking for another USS. As soon as the pilot inside would leave if it was just a trade ship, or funeral barge, we'd have another USS queued up to jump into.

It was hours of non stop sci-fi combat fun. Smuggling tons of illegal goods we'd find, blowing up the wanteds, flying about and really getting familiar with the mechanics of the game. I imagine the voice comms would be a great feature among friends. Once ED gets wings, and sharing bonuses, credits, rep, etc up and running, the co-op will take off for sure!

(Just remember to set your report crimes to off when flying with friends. Or you'll be heading back to an outpost to fix the universe for every ding and scratch.)

Thank You Frontier Sound guys for making Elite: Dangerous awesome! Seriously! Most games in the industry... sound is always an afterthought. But what you guys have done with the audio in this game is AAA top bar! Much Love! ;)
