Voice pack for the new VA

So, with the rift coming soon I started wandering about voice commands.
I bought the VA, but I dunno whether I should buy a voice pack, get a free one or edit VA on my own...
what do you guys think? which is better and which is worth my money?

I used my own at first. VA is very easy to set up to do just about anything you want. I did later get the Verity voice pack and I'm liking it very much. I have tweaked a couple of the Verity commands to better suit me. Again, very easy to do with VA.

Hcs voice packs are on sale

Now, of course, you’ll be needing a few additional crew members if you want to take advantage of the beta testing phase of "Singularity", so what better way than to have a whopping 50% off when you buy 2 additional voice packs.
Use the following code at checkout, and be quick! Limited number of packs available! When they’re gone, they’re gone![/h][h=1]"CREW50"[/h]You can also use the code for "Celeste" pre-order (minimum 2 x packs required).

Yawn, this Again..
IT IS A DIGITAL DOWNLOAD !
HOW DO YOU RUN OUT OF STOCK ?!?

I was nearly tempted, but thankfully this idiocy snapped me out of it.

I used to use voicepack wav files but now in conjuction with the free EDDI companion program that has plug-ins for VA, I use custom VA scripts to have the TTS voice of my choice say exactly the responses I want to my own commands - it's neat, and not hard to use at all.

More info on EDDI here: https://github.com/EDCD/EDDI

Recommended.

I wanted to give voiceattack a try. I downloaded the 30 day demo, and couldn't figure out how to set it up with Elite. I went in game and tried to issue voice commands, nothing happened.

THere were tutorials online, but the ones I've seen are massive and would take too much time. If only you could just install it and fire it up and go (after the speech training)

You pretty much can. Just create profile, open it, create a command, (as many commands as you like). Title with the words you want to say to activate the command. Assign the key you want to press when you say the command (This is the simplest thing to have it do. You can have it do lots of other stuff as well). You can optionally choose which application you want it to be active in or have work everywhere. Save the profile.

Make sure VA is running and launch ED. Your commands should just work. If they don't, try running VA as admin.

THanks for taking the time to reply.

But that's the thing though, I have to program it for each command? Thruster up, thruster down, landing gear, center HMD, launch SLF, etc? There is almost a hundred commands to set up no?

I see what you mean. That is where a voice pack might be helpful. There are a whole bunch of commands already programmed and you can add to them if necessary.

Oh really, so if I were to get (any) one of the HCS Voice Packs for Elite on top of VoiceAttack, most of these commands would already be set up?

Ok well as far as setting up the voice packs , it's easy for the basic setup of your controller ( voice command actions are already set for you like landing gear down , deploy weapons etc, you just need to follow the video to map your controller) , I just followed the YouTube video. I have noticed they even provide some config files for different controller types. Edited to clarify my post

I can only speak for the Verity pack as that's the only one I have tried, but most of the commands I wanted were already set up. Of course I don't know what command set you want so can't guarantee how useful it would be to you.

A very helpful chap has put together a list of commands in the Astra pack: http://forum.hcsvoicepacks.com/forum/elite-dangerous-discussion/10347-a-s-t-r-a-commands-cheat-sheet

Looks like the same set as Verity has.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I really liked the demo of the HCS Voice Pack with that French lady. I don't know if the voice pack "understands" what you are saying (like Siri or Cortana) and responds to that, or if it just picks up a voice command and converts that to a keyboard press. If it is the former then I'd definitely want to pick up the HCS Voice Pack.

HCS Voice Packs are somewhere in-between the likes of Cortana and simple commands.
HCS Voice Packs has voice commands that are converted to key press, in many cases it will have a number of different voice commands for the a single action.
It also adds logic based on commands you have run or information gained from your game journal, the logic allows it to make better decisions. A quick example would be asking it to engage the jump drive while your already in hyperspace, it would generally ignore the command.

ahh great, thanks!

If HCS Voice Packs made their packs refundable then I really wouldn't be here asking these questions.

Sorry for the thread hijack everyone!

The other cool thing about the HCS voice packs is that their plugin monitors the Elite journal log so it will prompt you for certain things automatically. For instance when you jump into a system it knows and will ask you if you want to scan the system, or once you request docking and are about to land it will ask if you want to deploy landing gear etc...

It is the latter.
It's merely a sound pattern that triggers a macro.

I just wish there was better integration for stuff like docking. from what I understand it's a total kludge on VA (not VA's fault) and I have the issue where i use both a controller and a HOTAS combo, and you cannot have a third input option for navigating the panel menu's which is what VA uses (simulates keystrokes)

If anyone has come up with a solution for this, it would be great, its a shame VA does not ask Frontier to enable some form of API communication between the two (or FDEV just needs to have a control binding option to request docking.
