Voice pack for the new VA

I just wish there was better integration for stuff like docking. from what I understand it's a total kludge on VA (not VA's fault) and I have the issue where i use both a controller and a HOTAS combo, and you cannot have a third input option for navigating the panel menu's which is what VA uses (simulates keystrokes)

If anyone has come up with a solution for this, it would be great, its a shame VA does not ask Frontier to enable some form of API communication between the two (or FDEV just needs to have a control binding option to request docking.

You can get VA to recognise hotas or controller buttons.

As *inputs*, yes, but not as outputs from what I gather - so in other words i cannot ask Celeste (when i get it) to dock and have voice attack output a series of button presses

what VA allows is if I press such and such a button, then say X and Press key Y ..

this is after doing a search on the VA forums .. happy to be wrong about it though because it will solve my problem !!

You can bind a single controller button to do multiple key presses, this will do the docking request and the voice packs are supposed to remember which tab you were on, so it knows what key presses are required.
That said, ages ago I saw a request to FD, asking for a key bind option for docking, this would make things much easier with and without VA.

No, you are right. Unfortunately :(

The way round it would be to assign the control to a key, then use VA to press that key when the controller button is pressed. You can then get VA to press the key for other inputs as well. Bit of a faff but the best solution I can think of.

I used to use voicepack wav files but now in conjuction with the free EDDI companion program that has plug-ins for VA, I use custom VA scripts to have the TTS voice of my choice say exactly the responses I want to my own commands - it's neat, and not hard to use at all.

More info on EDDI here: https://github.com/EDCD/EDDI

Recommended.

I agree and would highly recommend EDDI, very useful utility.

I use EDDI in conjunction with VA, the A.S.T.R.A voice pack and CereProc Caitlin (Irish English) voice for Windows and even though it's collectively quite expensive, it reallly adds to the atmosphere and functionality.

Reading another thread on the galmap, this reminded me of another good reason to look at the HCS Voice Packs, some at least can navigate.
For example some of their packs know of the engineers. With a voice command, VA+HCS will open the galaxy map, select the correct tab, type in the system name and plot the course.

That's great. I wish they would specify which HCS Voice Packs could do this and which couldn't. LIke I browsed through their options, some of them say they know the Galaxopedia but some don't specify whether they know them too or they don't.

Also, being in VR it's an inconvenience to reach for a keyboard. Are you able to spell out star systems? For example "plot a course to el tee tee space nine zero nine seven"?

Their web site is a bit vague but their forums are quite good for the more detailed stuff. From recollection they updated ASTRA earlier this year with all of the functionality and are updating most of the other packs over time.

I can tell you that Verity can do this. I do wish HCS would publish lists of available commands for the voice packs.

I can tell you that Verity does NOT do this (wish it would). I don't think any of them do.

There are a few methods to achieve this. I use a mix of programmed routes and systems, or I spell out the system name to the ships computer phonetically.

Some examples -

Pre programmed- Computer, set a course for a Maia. The computer will open the galaxy map and type the systems name.

Phonetically - Computer set a course for (Pause) Mike, Alpha, India, Alpha

HCS have plenty of programmed routes, I also downloaded a free pack with a huge number of routes/systems and points of interest. You simply import the commands into your own profile, takes a minute tops.

Great for hands free route plotting in VR.

Yeah, I might take a swing at programming in a few of my frequently visited systems and my 'home' system (currently kamadhenu)

I'm also using EDDI with CereProc Caitlin she actually pronounces Aisling properly!!

This thread (and 777Driver) has inspired me. I have just set up commands for typing using the phonetic alphabet :)

Next step auto route plotting to my favourite destinations :D
