Newcomer / Intro VOICEATTACK - Help!

I'm having trouble getting Voiceattack to run properly.
(not sure if this is the correct forum - sorry!)

I've registered it and installed it ok - but when it loads I get an error: 'CultureInfo.InvariantCulture'
VoiceAttack explains that this is usually generated by the system using the 'Lightweight' version of the speech engine.

I checked this, and indeed the 'Lightweight' version of Platform 11 was being used by Voiceattack.

So I went to the Microsoft website and downloaded Platform 11, installed it, and restarted the computer

But... when I check the 'Recognition' tab in the Options section, the dropdown still only displays the 'Lightweight' Platform 11, OR the 'System Default'
Trying either is of no help - VoiceAttack still generates the above error when loaded with either option.

Q1 How can I determine which version of the Speech Engine Platform 11 my Windows 10 is running...?
Q2 - Assuming the full version of Platform 11 is being used by my system - How can I get Voiceattack to use it...?

Thanks!

I am no expert - so on my machine (windows 10) there is nothing shown like what you describe. Here is what I see:

So the speech recognition in use for me is the Microsoft Speech Recogniser 8.0 for Windows (English - UK) ( the US one is also available in the drop down).

The speech platform version 11 is the thing that uses the recognizer and the text-to-speech runtime languages so

platform: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27225

recogniser and tts languages: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?amp&id=24139

I hope that helps, as I said I am no expert.

Para Handy: You may not be an expert, but your post gave me a clue as to how to fix the problem!
I'm in Australia, and all the 'speech stuff' on my system is set up for Australia.
I switched everything over to UK English and Voiceattack likes it - now v8.0 appears in the dropdown
Now to train it to my voice...... :)

Glad you got it sorted. I notice that there are only the two English engines (US and GB) in Micro$oft's offerings, so your solution is good to know for anyone else having issues in the future. Thanks for letting us know. (y)

EDIT - I just noticed that there are version 11 languages listed elsewhere on MS web - I see that there are more English languages there (including Au):

MSSpeech_SR_en-US_TELE.msi
MSSpeech_SR_en-AU_TELE.msi
MSSpeech_SR_en-CA_TELE.msi
MSSpeech_SR_en-GB_TELE.msi
MSSpeech_SR_en-IN_TELE.msi

I'll have to investigate why my system only has MS Speech 8 version.

Well ... my advice is 'be cautious' - it was v11 that caused me so much pain
If it works, might be best to 'not fix it' - :)

Heh ... I'm from Belfast, so I would have understood her just fine!
(I've been in Australia 40 years, but my accent is still thick! - yep, the fun is just starting training speech recognition... :) )

Sorry...All I can picture is Mr. Scott talking to the mouse in Star Trek IV...And Yes, I know he was acting as a Scot and you are most likely Irish if your Nan was from Belfast, so there is absolutely NO insult intended Commander. I do hope it all works out.

I use the voice to text option on my phone and some of the stuff it comes up with, I swear that Helen Keller is running it. I have to use it, then check for editing just to make sure it put down what I said. There have been a couple of times that it made me look like I had a brain aneurism for breakfast.

I have been thinking about getting the Voice Attack and one of the associated voice packs from HSC I think it is...hopefully work will let up a bit and I can get back into the game again other than for a few minutes at a time.

Take Care and Check Six Commanders! o7
